Census Takers Begin Visits For Unfinished 2020 Census In Vienna

Residents can ask to confirm the identity of a Census taker to ensure the person is not a scammer.

VIENNA, VA — Census takers are following up at Vienna households that have not completed the 2020 U.S. Census starting on Friday.

Census takers are visiting homes to ensure all residents are counted in the 2020 Census. Households began receiving invitations in the spring to complete the Census online, by phone or by mail. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Vienna has an 83 percent response rate, higher than Virginia's collective 67.5 percent.

The Town of Vienna government cautions residents that scammers may try to take advantage of Census takers visiting homes. There are a few ways confirm the person visiting your home is with the Census Bureau and not a scammer. Census takers will wear personal protective gear and have identification. They will ask nine questions but will not request banking information or social security numbers. Residents are not required to answer the Census taker and can respond to the Census online or by phone.
