VIENNA, VA — It feels like December just started, but the winter holidays are quickly approaching. If you're looking for something to do between holiday shopping, cookie baking and hosting holiday gatherings, there are plenty of events in the Vienna area.

The holiday season means there are plenty of seasonal happenings in and around town. Christmas concerts at local churches are coming up to help you get in the holiday spirit. Holiday lights displays are ongoing events that give families something to do in between holiday gatherings. Plus, mark your calendar for several New Year's Eve events.

Meadowlark's Winter Walk of Lights: daily through Jan. 8

Enjoy walking through the botanical gardens decked out in thousands of lights. The path is stroller and wheelchair accessible. While walking, enjoy a hot drink or s'mores.

Winter Lantern Festival, Tysons: Dec. 16 to Feb. 12

Lerner Town Square, 8025 Galleria Dr., Tysons, VA

This new lights experience features over 1000 Chinese lanterns with a focus on Chinese myths and legends. Guests can explore displays such as animals as well as interactive parts like light swings, seesaws, and tunnels.

Rudolph's Rockin' Reindeer Games: Dec. 17, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Boro Tysons, 8350 Broad Street Tysons, VA

This holiday dance party features DJ spinning holiday classics, crafts that could become homemade holiday gifts, a hot cocoa bar, and Rudolph's Reindeer Games for a chance to win prizes. Santa will be on site for photos from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Good Shepherd Choir’s “Angel Band” Christmas Cantata: Dec. 18, 10:15 a.m.

Church of the Good Shepherd, 2351 Hunter Mill Road, Vienna, VA

The community is invited to hear the Nativity story through song at Church of the Good Shepherd, a United Methodist church. Good Shepherd's music director Larry Caines wanted to tell the Christmas story in a new way with a folk style performance. Along with the choir, the performance will feature mandolin, guitar, banjo, fiddle and piano by church accompanist Grace Kim. Worship services are in person and virtual through Facebook and Zoom.

Vienna Baptist Church's Outdoor Children's Christmas Service: Dec. 18, 4 p.m.

Join this outdoor service for children for the telling of the Christmas story, a petting zoo and more.

Vienna Presbyterian Church's Glorious Sounds of Christmas: Dec. 18, 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

This free concert by the Vienna Presbyterian Church Choirs and Cathedral Bass explores the joy of Christmas. Child care will be provided.

Cafe Renaissance Holiday Wine Dinner: Dec. 21, 6:30 p.m.

New Year's Eve Countdown Dinner Party at Inca Social: Dec. 31

Rocknoceros has a tradition for 15 years to perform at Jammin Java for New Year's Eve. Bring the kids and count down to noon for those who expect to turn in early before midnight. An apple juice toast is included.

New Year’s Eve Bash MMXXIII w/ Milo in the Doldrums: Dec. 31, 6:30 p.m.

Enjoy New Year's Eve with performances from four local bands. The event has a food drive benefiting Food For Others. Any guest who brings two canned goods will get $2 off their ticket.
