Driver Dies In Fiery Tractor-Trailer Crash On Capital Beltway

The truck's fuel tank ruptured when it crashed, causing it to catch fire.

DUNN LORING, VA—A tractor-trailer driver died in a fiery crash on the Capital Beltway in the Dunn Loring area early Thursday, according to Virginia State Police.

Police responded to the crash around 1:49 a.m. on the Beltway at Exit 49 near Interstate 66. The tractor-trailer went off the right side of the Beltway and hit a concrete barrier. This caused the fuel tank to rupture and the truck to catch fire, WTOP reported.

The driver was pronounced dead on the scene and has not been identified. The medical examiner will identify the person and perform an autopsy.

The crash resulted in the closure of all southbound lanes until around 6 a.m., Fox5 reported. Heavy delays continued into the morning, WTOP's traffic map showed.
