Driver Mistakenly Turns Onto Bike Trail: Vienna Police Report
Vienna Police responded to a driver hitting a barrier on the W&OD Trail and other incidents within the week.

VIENNA, VA—Vienna Police responded to a variety of incidents the week of Sept. 14-20, from a suspicious person in a resident's backyard to a one-car crash on the Washington & Old Dominion Trail.
We've rounded up the most notable incidents below. An arrest does not necessarily mean police took someone into custody. An arrested individual is not automatically guilty of a crime.
Petit Larceny 18-007566
400 Block Mill Street, SE
Between September 13 at 12:00 p.m. and September 14 at 9:00 a.m.
A resident reported the front license plate was stolen from his vehicle.

400 Block Maple Avenue, East
September 14 12:35 a.m.
A citizen notified the police after he witnessed a driver hit another vehicle and leave the scene
driving erratically. MPO Borja located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The officer noted
significant damage to the vehicle and the driver side airbag had been deployed. Upon the officer’s
interaction with the driver, she detected signs of impairment.
The driver failed to complete a series of field sobriety tests. MPO Borja arrested the 48-year-old
man from 39th Street, NW in Washington, DC. He was transported to the Vienna Police Station
where he was given the opportunity to provide a sample of his breath for analysis. He was then
transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Felony Hit
& Run and Driving While Intoxicated. (See Accident #18-007536)
Crash - 400 Block Maple Avenue, East 18-007536 (related to Incident 18-007536)
September 14 12:35 a.m.
Vehicle-2 was traveling westbound on Maple Avenue in the right lane with Vehicle-1 traveling
behind him in the same lane. Driver-2 noticed Driver-1 driving erratically and slowed down.
Vehicle-1 struck the rear of Vehicle-2. Vehicle-1 then continued to strike the right curb and
bushes. Driver-1 fled the scene without stopping. Driver-2 suffered injury and significant damage
to his vehicle.
MPO Borja observed Vehicle-1 and initiated a traffic stop at Chainbridge Road and Hibbard Street.
Driver-1 was arrested on charges of Felony Hit & Run and Driving While Intoxicated.

1200 Block Ware Street, SW
Between September 14 at 10:00 p.m. and September 15 at 9:00 a.m.
A resident reported a jogging stroller was taken from outside the front door of their residence.
Suspicious Person 18-007625
1100 Block Pekay Street, SW
September 15 9:30 p.m.
A resident reported an unknown man entered the backyard of their home and was looking through the kitchen window. The man was described as Hispanic, in his late 30’s. The man fled, jumping over the fence when the resident noticed him.
Grand Larceny 18-007717
500 Block Stephen Circle, SW
September 18 between 8:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.
A resident reported the theft of a tool from his residence.
Crash - Vienna Community Center 18-007676
120 Cherry Street, SE
September 18 11:54 a.m.
Vehicle-1 was traveling northbound on Park Street with the intention of turning into the
Community Center parking lot. Driver-1 mistakenly turned onto the W&OD Bike Trail. Driver1
attempted to make a U-turn and struck a barrier along the trail.
200 Block Park Terrace Court, SE
Between September 18 at 5:30 p.m. and September 19 at 11:20 a.m.
A resident reported vandalism to his vehicle.
Suspicious Event 18-007702
1100 Block Drake Street, SW
Between September 18 at 8:00 p.m. and September 19 at 9:00 a.m.
A citizen advised that when they returned to the home, they found signs that someone had entered
the residence.
