Lanes Reopen After Emergency Work On I-66
VDOT says emergency repairs finished before the afternoon rush hour.
FAIRFAX, VA — Emergency road work resulted in traffic impacts on Interstate 66 Wednesday, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
VDOT says a "hole/void" was found under the road, prompting emergency road closures. Westbound I-66 had two left lanes closed between Route 123 and Route 50 in the Fairfax area. Commuters were urged to avoid I-66 and use alternate transportation.
Officials braced for major delays during the Wednesday evening commute, but the lanes reopened early in the afternoon.
