Artist Sonja Weber Gilkey to exhibit at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens

Meadowlark Botanical Gardens in Vienna will feature the sculptural artworks of Sonja Weber Gilkey on Sunday, April 28th at 3 p.m.. The artworks blend seamlessly with the beautiful visitor center and the vibrant colors of the flowers and plants found throughout the gardens. Gilkey will give a brief talk about her work to be followed by a reception. The exhibit will feature four large scale works including Les Ames En Route (Souls Travelling) which received a special prize from the American Folk Art Museum in New York City.

Gilkey is a visual artist born in The Netherlands who derives most of her inspiration and materials from the sea. Her work is tactile and moving. Her sculptural works incorporate the natural materials found at sea and materials made by society for work at sea. Her artworks have been exhibited in historic museums and galleries in both The United States and Europe. Most recently her work was showcased at two maritime museums in Maine. Now Sonja brings her artistic focus on the fragile beauty of nature to the Meadowlark Botanical Gardens.

“I am so happy to have my artworks among such natural beauty. I hope they will contribute to the wonderful experience visitors have at Meadowlark” said Gilkey.
