FCPS Offers Substitute Teaching For Furloughed Federal Workers
The school district will hold a hiring event for federal employees seeking work during the government shutdown.

Fairfax County Public Schools, the largest school district in Virginia, is offering substitute teaching positions to federal employees furloughed during the government shutdown. The hiring event will take place Friday, Jan. 11, from 2 p.m.-4:30 p.m. at the FCPS Administration Center, 8115 Gatehouse Road, Falls Church, VA 22042. FCPS will have an expedited hiring process during the event.
"The Fairfax County School Board and I know there are many talented people in our community who work for the federal government," said Scott S. Brabrand, FCPS Superintendent in a statement. "We want to show support for federal employees who have been furloughed and may be looking for work during the partial shutdown. There is always a need for substitute teachers, and we pledge to work with qualified people to expedite their hiring."
According to a hiring event page, the pay rate for substitute teachers is $100.59 per day. The rate for substitute instructional assistants is $94.78 per day. Duties may include "planning, delivery, and assessment of classroom instruction along with safety and management of a classroom or assigned instructional setting."

Those interested in substitute teaching should complete an application online. To attend the hiring event, applicants should register on Eventbrite. Candidates should bring to the hiring event original documents required for the I-9 form. Background checks are required for all FCPS employees and volunteers.
Parking for the hiring event is available in the Gatehouse parking garage beneath the building on Gatehouse Road. After parking, take the elevator to the first floor and use the garage access to enter the building.
