Fire Heavily Damages Restaurant on Maple Avenue

The two-alarm blaze on Wednesday began in the kitchen, says Fairfax County Fire Department.

VIENNA, VA — A fire that broke out in the kitchen of a restaurant on Maple Avenue (Route 123) on Wednesday afternoon brought several dozen firefighters to the scene and caused heavy damage to the building, according to the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department.

Fire investigators determined that the blaze was accidental in nature, and resulted from a grease fire from an unattended pot on a stove, the fire department announced Friday. Damages to the building are estimated to total about $175,000.

The first units responded to the blaze at 5:34 p.m. Wednesday in the 100 block of Maple Avenue West. Initially, the fire was spotted by personnel from a fire station in Vienna, who saw smoke coming from the building when they were returning from a medical incident in the area, the fire department said.
