Food Bank To Hold Free NoVA Grocery Markets For Federal Workers

Up to 500 people at each location can get free groceries with a federal government employee or federal contractor ID.

WASHINGTON, DC—The Capital Area Food Bank will host a second weekend of free grocery markets after a high turnout last weekend. Due to the demand, the food bank will expand to eight locations, which includes two places in Northern Virginia.

The food bank will distribute free produce and canned foods on Saturday, Jan. 19 from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. outside the eight Giant and Safeway locations. Up to 500 people can receive food at each site. A federal government employment ID or federal contractor ID must be shown to receive groceries.

The Capital Area Food Bank is seeking volunteers Thursday to pack food for the grocery markets. Donations can also be made to the food bank online.
