The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projects overall STEM employment to grow about 13 percent between 2012 and 2022. This is faster than the 11 percent rate of growth projected for all occupations during the same decade.
In the most recent Occupational Outlook Report from the BLS, the Department of Commerce reports that during the past 10 years, STEM job growth was three times as fast as non-STEM job growth. Just as importantly, STEM workers are less likely to experience joblessness than their non-STEM counterparts.
