Giving Continues Over Summer Months
Assistance League of Northern Virginia receives generous food and school supply donation from corporate partner.
This summer, with the support of our corporate partner Intelsat, Assistance League of Northern Virginia was able to expand its Weekend Food for Kids program to offer three additional months of food deliveries to students at Yorkshire Elementary, a Title I school in Manassas.
During the 2015-16 school year, Intelsat Corporation (Reston) donated more than 1000 bags of food to the nonprofit's program which provides weekend food to children in need. Intelsat’s commitment to continue providing 150 bags of food to the program in the months of June, July and August demonstrates the company’s philosophy of “giving back globally on a local basis.” Students enrolled in Yorkshire’s summer school academic program benefited from the food donations.
The 501(c)(3) nonprofit is grateful for the generosity of Intelsat’s management team and the hard-working employees who donate their time to purchase and pack bags which are then donated to the organization. Last week, in addition to the 150 bags of food, Intelsat staff also purchased back-to-school supplies and filled 50 colorful backpacks with the basics. Note: These backpacks were donated to Intelsat by another remarkable individual in our community to help children whose families cannot afford them.
