Nonprofit For Adults With Disabilities Holds Ceremony To Celebrate New Vienna Office

VIENNA, VA — A nonprofit organization focused on providing day programs for adults with disabilities held a ribbon-cutting ceremony and talent show on Thursday as it celebrated the opening of its new administrative office in Vienna.

The new office for the nonprofit SPARC is at The Church of the Good Shepherd, a United Methodist church located at 2351 Hunter Mill Road in Vienna.

SPARC Executive Director Debi Alexander joined Fairfax Board of Supervisor John Foust (Dranesville District); Justin Dolan, one of SPARC’s original club members; and Good Shepherd Pastor Eric Song in cutting a large purple ribbon to celebrate the opening of the new office.

Also taking part in Thursday’s ceremony were Tom Madden, chairman of the board for The Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce, which supported the event, and Aryeh Kalender, from the office of Supervisor Dalia Palchik (Providence District).

Along with opening the new administrative office, the nonprofit is observing its 15th anniversary this fall.

SPARC provides membership-based day programs for adults with disabilities at several clubhouse locations in Northern Virginia. The programs allow members to get involved in ways adapted to their abilities. Activities can include news quizzes, word games, cooking, painting, building and more. Adults with a disability who are 18 or older or no longer in high school can become members.

The Church of the Good Shepherd became involved with SPARC by providing space in its Fellowship Hall for a SPARC day program during the summer months.
