It's Halloween season, which means various scream-inducing haunted houses are open in and around Northern Virginia.

VIRGINIA — October marks Halloween season, when Northern Virginia residents visit haunted houses in search of thrills and screams. The greater Northern Virginia, DC and Maryland region have plentiful attractions to help you get in the Halloween season.

Cox Farms transforms into a haunted farm on select nights during its fall festival season. Enjoy three attractions — Cornightmare, The Forest: Back 40, and Dark Side Hayride along with food and other limited entertainment.

Workhouse Haunt: Nightmare Harvest: Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, Oct. 1 to Nov. 5 and Oct. 31

Workhouse Arts Center, 9518 Workhouse Way, Lorton, VA 22079

Tickets: $30

Workhouse Arts Center's outdoor haunted trail returns with a "Nightmare Harvest" theme. The 30-minute experience takes guests next to the site's abandoned buildings into the dark woods, where they will find terrifying characters and sights. In addition, live bands will perform in the Rizer Pavilion on Friday and Saturday nights from Oct. 7 through Oct. 29. A Haunt Bar will be open for purchase of snacks and beverages. Tickets are available in advance online.

Clifton Haunted Trail: Oct. 29

8-Acre Park, 12800 Chapel Street, Clifton, VA 20124

Tickets: Prices vary

Clifton Haunted Trail returns in 2022 after a three-year pause. The haunted attraction builds on stories about nearby haunted homes and commercial buildings as well as the urban legend of the Bunny Man and the Bunny Man Bridge.

The Death Trail: Select dates from Oct. 14 to 30

Tickets: Starting at $20

The Death Trail dates back to 2009, providing a 30 to 40 minute walkthrough. Two escape rooms are also options for $5 more. At the end, guests are provided with a message of hope through Christian faith.

Madhunter's Madhouse: Select dates, Oct. 7-31

Tickets: $25

This haunted attraction has been named Virginia's top haunt several times by frightfind.com. The Madhunter behind the attraction used to run attractions on the West Coast before making a terrifying debut in the DC region in 2011, operating at various locations since then.

Haunted Hollow: Fridays and Saturdays, Sept. 30 to Oct. 29

Tickets: $15-20

This haunted attraction located around the barns of an abandoned haunted farm isn't for the faint of heart.

Haunted Nightmares: Select dates Oct. 7 to 31

Tickets: Pricing varies by activity

This attraction doubles as a haunted house and escape rooms. Nighttime hay rides and corn mazes are also open during the haunt.

Haunted Hill: Fridays and Saturdays through Oct. 29

Price: $20

This attraction in the woods of Spotsylvania County was top-rated in Virginia last year. Guests enter with a dark haywagon ride that drops them off in the woods. Face your fears against ghouls, zombies, clowns, mazes and other frights. Due to its intensity, it is not recommended for children under 12, people with medical conditions or the faint of heart.

Haunt at King's Dominion: Select nights, Sept. 24 to Oct. 30

Experience the theme park beyond the traditional rides. If you dare, enter six haunted mazes and five scare zones and witness spooky live shows.
