2 People Displaced From Oakton House Fire

Residents safely evacuated, but two people were taken to the hospital as a precaution, according to the fire department.

OAKTON, VA—A fire displaced two people from their Oakton home Tuesday, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.

Around 11:50 a.m., units from Fairfax County and Fairfax City responded to the 2900 block of Trousseau Lane. Firefighters quickly put out the fire in the home's basement.

The residents evacuated before firefighters arrived, according to Lt. Kris Johnson. One resident unsuccessfully tried to extinguish the fire. Two people were taken to the hospital as a precaution. There were no reported firefighter injuries.

Fire investigators determined the cause of the blaze was an electrical event involving a Lithium-Ion battery charger igniting nearby combustibles.

The residents declined Red Cross assistance. Damages are estimated to be $90,000.
