I-495 Lane Reduction, Express Lanes Closure Planned At 66 Interchange
On two nights this weekend, northbound I-495 will be reduced to one lane, and the northbound I-495 Express Lanes will be closed one night.
FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — Drivers should prepare for upcoming lane and ramp closures at the Interstate 495 and 66 interchange this Friday and Saturday.
According to the Virginia Department of Transportation, bridge beam installation for the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway project will prompt lane closures, ramp closures and an I-495 Express Lanes closure. The new bridge beams will widen the ramp from eastbound I-66 to northbound I-495 for connections to the new I-66 Express Lanes outside the Beltway.
Overnight on Friday and Saturday, northbound I-495 will be reduced to one lane approaching I-66. On Friday, two lanes will be closed from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m., and only one lane will be open from 10:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. On Saturday, three lanes will be closed from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.

In other news for the I-66 Express Lanes project, the first new flyover ramp at the reconstructed I-495 and 66 interchange is opening Thursday. The ramp from northbound I-495 to westbound I-66 will replace the previous ramp about a half mile south.
The I-495 and 66 interchange is being reconstructed to accommodate connections to and from the new I-66 Express Lanes. The Express Lanes between I-495 and University Boulevard in Gainesville are expected to open in December 2022.
