Kathleen Murphy Releases TV Ad in Special Election to Fill Virginia's 34th District

Ad features Murphy's views on jobs, education, gun safety. Election is coming up on Jan. 6.

Democratic candidate Kathleen Murphy released a TV ad Friday, titled “Opportunities,” the only TV ad released by either candidate in the race to fill Virginia’s 34th District House of Delegates seat, recently vacated by Barbara Comstock.

Comstock was recently elected to Congress to fill the seat of longtime Congressman Frank Wolf, who is retiring from Capitol Hill.

The election for the delegate seat is Jan. 6. The district includes parts of Vienna, McLean, Great Falls, Wolf Trap and Potomac Falls. Fairfax County comprises 69 percent of the district with Loudoun County taking up the rest.

Murphy, a Democrat, is a McLean resident, veteran consultant and the president of Johnson Murphy & Associates. She’s running against Craig Parisot, a Republican, also of McLean.

The spot highlights Murphy’s focus on “getting things done in Richmond to grow our economy in Northern Virginia, to ensure that every child has the opportunity to receive a world class education, and to keep guns out of the hands of criminals,” according to a news release from her campaign.

“Businesses come to Northern Virginia because of our world-class schools,” said Murphy. “The education cuts coming out of Richmond are unacceptable. They hurt our economy in Northern Virginia and put our children’s future at risk. As Delegate, I will work to stop the cuts and ensure every child receives a world-class education.”

The 34th district contains part of Fairfax and Loudoun counties. Loudoun is one of only three localities in the Commonwealth without universal full-day kindergarten, the campaign noted. While Murphy has strongly voiced her commitment to full-day kindergarten, the campaign points out that her opponent recently stated that he has no position on the issue.

Murphy, her campaign points out, is also the only candidate in favor of common sense gun solutions, such as expanded background checks, to ensure the safety of our children and community.
