LearningRx and Tysons Chamber Lead Job Shadow Program
Tysons Regional Chamber of Commerce Kicks Off 2019 Job Shadow Program for 50 Fairfax Co. Students
Maureen Loftus, executive director of LearningRx of Vienna, Va., and Reston, Va. is leading the seventh annual Tysons Regional Chamber of Commerce (TRCC) job shadow program, in partnership with Fairfax County Public Schools, for more than 50 11th and 12th grade Fairfax County students. Students applied from James Madison High School, George C. Marshall High School, Marshall Academy and Oakton High School in Fairfax County, Va. Students can shadow professionals in more than 30 industries for one day from January through March 2019. Loftus is heading up the program as she is the chair of the TRCC’s Youth and Education Committee. For more information, go to www.learningrx.com.
Approximately 30 organizations are hosting students for a day, including: Convene, CST Group, Delegate Mark Keam, FACETS Cares, Food for Others, Grossberg Company, Impact Business Solutions, Intelsat, Jiffy Lube, Navy Federal Credit Union, Senator Mark Warner, StraTac Marketing, The Arc of Northern Virginia, Vienna Animal Hospital and Yext.
“Our Job Shadow program always makes an impact with students because it connects real world experience with teenagers’ aspirations,” said Maureen Loftus, executive director of LearningRx of Reston, Va. and Vienna, Va. and chair of the Youth and Education Committee of the Tysons Regional Chamber of Commerce. “We appreciate the continued support from our business community,” said Loftus.

Students that are interested the TRCC Job Shadow Program filled out an application to select their areas of career interests. Job shadow programs are available in the more than 30 professions including: accounting/finance, aerospace, business management, cyber security, engineering, environmental, non-profit, sales/marketing and veterinary. The process for the students includes an orientation during which Navy Federal provides training on Workplace 101 which covers all of the basics of what is expected of students in the professional workplace.

Loftus has been on the TRCC’s Youth and Education Committee board of directors for the past six years and a TRCC member for nine years.
