Vienna's Liberty Amendments Month To Wrap Up With Multicultural Festival

The Town of Vienna's fourth annual Liberty Amendments Month will end with a Multicultural Festival on the Town Green.

VIENNA, VA — As the Town of Vienna's fourth annual Liberty Amendments Month prepares to wrap up, families can enjoy a Multicultural Festival on Friday.

The Multicultural Festival will take place on the Town Green from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, July 12. The event intends to showcase the diverse cultures and communities of Northern Virginia. It will coincide with Vienna's Summer on the Green concert series.

Attendees will enjoy food trucks, live music, children's performers, children's activities and games, Liberty Amendments Month Children's Readers Theatre and voter registration and resources.

The lineup of entertainment is:

4:15 p.m. - Rose Powhatan - Land Acknowledgment and Indigenous Storytelling

5 p.m. - Wanpen Boonma - Thai Fruit and Vegetable Carving Demonstration

5:30 p.m. - Choy Won Lion Dance Troup

6:15 p.m. - Liberty Amendment Month Reader's Theatre presented by the Vienna Baha’i Community

7:30 p.m. - Cheick Hamala Diabate- Malian Folk and Funk Fusion

The 2024 Liberty Amendments Month runs from June 15 to July 15. The month-long celebration focuses on the 13th, 14th, 15th and 19th Amendments, which granted rights to people who were previously excluded from the U.S. Constitution. Town Manager Mercury Payton had the idea of starting Liberty Amendments Month in 2021 as Juneteenth became a Virginia state holiday.

Top events during Liberty Amendments Month were the Juneteenth Celebration at First Baptist Church on June 15, Naturalization Ceremony on June 29 and Independence Day Celebration and Fireworks on July 2. Other events have been ongoing, like museum exhibits and flash card quizzes on different amendments at the Freeman Store and Museum and the Vienna Community Center, Liberty Amendments Learning Tour outside the Freeman Store and Museum and the Vienna Community Center, displays and giveaways at the Vienna Farmers Market, African American Historic Sites Tour of Vienna and Body Grace Fitness Class and 13th Amendment Event.
