Little Library- on the Vienna W&OD Trail, Ayr Hill Garden Club gift.
Ayr Hill Garden Club's new Little Library is located at their W &OD Bike Trail garden, stocked with nature, wildlife and gardening books.
Ayr Hill Garden Club President, Cherie Lejeune noticed the large numbers of Little Libraries all over Vienna. She stopped at many but did not find any books on nature or gardening. So she asked her club members who maintain 5 community gardens, if they would support building a Little Library. The response was a "YES"and decided to put it into the 43 year old garden on the Nova Parks, W&OD Trail, next to Whole Foods.
The members not only have many books themselves to supply the library, but are hoping others will follow suit and bring their special garden, ecology, wildlife and nature themed books for either adults and children, to the Little Library. "That is the secret sauce of a successful Little Library", said Lejeune,"take one bring one!" They also plan to hold reading sessions in good weather months for youth and will post in the Patch and other outlets the times.
The Little Library was built by a local craftsman, John Walker, whose daughter filled their home backyard garden with native plants which keep them busy watching the insects and birds all summer long. He was very happy to support the project.
