Madison Crew Enjoys Ideal Conditions at the Darrell Winslow Regatta

James Madison High School Crew Regatta Results April 16

The conditions were perfect last Saturday, with a high of 70 degrees and little wind, making it a welcome return to the Occoquan for Madison rowers after battling snow squalls, rain, and high winds at St. Andrews in Middletown, Delaware on April 9. It was a long day of racing at the Darrell Winslow, with the final race hitting the start line at 5:13 p.m.!

Madison’s Men’s First Eight won first place with a time of 4:40.3! The Men’s Fourth Eight also finished first with a time of 5:01.9, eight seconds ahead of Thomas Jefferson High School.

Madison’s Women’s First Eight finished strong in second place with a time of 5:20.1, after winning their heat earlier in the day. With a time of 5:04.4, the Men’s Second Eight finished 3 seconds behind first place Thomas Jefferson High School. There was a strong second place finish by the Women’s Third Eight with a time of 6:00.1. The Men’s Third Eight had a great race, also finishing second with a time of 5:26.6.

The Women’s Second Eight finished third with a time of 5:21.4. The Women’s Novice 8 also finished their race in third place with a time of 6:16.2.

Madison’s Women’s Novice 4—racing for the first time as a four—finished in fifth place with a time of 7:20.6.

The Smokey Jacobs regatta, scheduled for April 23, was cancelled so rowers could observe Passover. On April 30, Madison rowers head to the Potomac to race in the Charlie Butt Regatta.
