Madison Girls Advance to Conference Lacrosse Finals
Warhawks will play Langley today for Conference title after defeating McLean 11-10
For the second time this season, the Warhawks defeated McLean by a single goal, allowing Madison to advance to the Liberty Conference 6 championship game today, May 13, against Langley. Madison and McLean met at Hayfield Secondary for their Conference semi-final contest on May 11. The Warhawks profited from aggressive play on both ends of the field and prevailed 11-10. Goalie Ellie Socher denied the Highlanders 10 goal opportunities, while defenders Shannon Condon, Jacqueline Shultz, Hailey Swaak, Caroline Kurtz and Laurel Yano held the McLean offense at bay. Kurtz, Carly Rogers and Logan Hanton intercepted multiple Highlander passes, including Hanton’s snag of an inbound pass which she immediately converted to a goal. Annabelle Bentley, Ashley Go and Grace McDonough caused additional turnovers. Scoring for Madison were Hanton (3), McDonough (2), Kurtz (1), Rogers (1), Go (1) , Zoe Dyer (2) and Diana Lowther (1). Hanton, Rogers, Go and Anya Saponja had assists.
