Madison Theater Scores 3 Cappies Nominations For 'Much Ado About Nothing' Production
Meridian High has three nominations and Oakton High has nine in the DC area high school theater's version of the Tony Awards.

VIENNA, VA — Madison High School's production of "Much Ado About Nothing" proved to be just the comic relief the audience needed.
The production drew three nominations for the prestigious National Capital Area Cappie Awards, which are considered the Tony Awards for high school theater in the DC region. The nominations include Best Play, Jonah Uffelman for Comic Actor in a Male Role in a Play, and Mary Ulses for Lead Actor in a Female Role in a Play.
Neighboring Oakton High School had nine nominations, including Clare Shacochis for Andy Mays Rising Critic and eight for "Wendy & Peter Pan" — Best Play, Eliot Hettler & the Fly Team for Special Effects and or Technology, Ash Dougherty, Grace Lionato, & the Sound Team for Sounds, Shane Roy & the Set Team for Sets, The Pirates for Ensemble in a Play, Alex Surakov for Featured Actor in a Male Role in a Play, Kaitlyn McCarley for Comic Actor in a Female Role in a Play and Sarah Driessen for Supporting Actor in a Female Role in a Play

Madison and Oakton's plays were performed during the fall season. "Much Ado About Nothing" is a comedy by William Shakespeare about love, while "Wendy & Peter Pan" is a remake of the classic Peter Pan story.
Winners of the Cappies awards will be announced at the Cappies Gala on June 12 at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in DC.
