Madison Students To Hold 'Town Hall For Our Lives'
Residents are invited to share their opinions on gun control at the student-organized forum.

UDPATE: The town hall has been cancelled for Saturday, April 7 due to potential inclement weather. The organizers are working to reschedule the event with the congressman. We will send an update when a new date is set.
Since the Feb. 14 Parkland shooting, Madison students have grouped together to push for gun control measures. Their latest effort is a town hall planned for Saturday, April 7 from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at the Vienna Community Center, 120 Cherry Street SE.
The event is free and open to constituents of Virginia's 11th congressional district, represented by Democratic Rep. Gerry Connolly. Students are working on confirming Connolly's attendance at the town hall. State Sen. Chap Peterson and Libertarian candidate for the 11th congressional district Stevan Porter will attend.

At the forum, residents can express their opinions about gun control and school safety. The Madison students organizing the event are pushing for ban on "assault" weapons like the AR-15 and high-capacity magazines and mandatory background checks.

Madison students have been politically active in other ways. They have held two school walkouts, wrote and called members of Congress and attended the March for Our Lives on March 24. A third walkout is in the works for April 20, but it could be longer than the 17-minute walkouts the school district has allowed in the past. Anderson says they're considering walking to Flint Hill School and Oakton High School and marching on to the NRA Headquarters in Fairfax.
The town hall is not affiliated with Town of Vienna or Fairfax County Public Schools. Find more information here and RSVP here.
