MAKING A DIFFERENCE - ONE BOOK AT A TIME WITH CHAPTER-WIDE CHILDREN'S BOOK DRIVE
Assistance League of Northern Virginia delivers over 400 new books to Title I school in Springfield in celebration of Make A Difference Day.

To celebrate USA TODAY™ National Make A Difference Day, volunteers from Assistance League® of Northern Virginia collected and then delivered over 400 children’s books to Lynbrook Elementary School in Springfield on October 27. The book donations were presented to children in Ms. Orr’s kindergarten class, who accepted on behalf of the other students in the school. The enthusiastic children chose their own book with great delight, and the excitement on their faces filled the hearts of Assistance League volunteers in attendance. Principal Jay Nocco and Reading Specialist Cathy Podagrosi joined in the celebration, expressing their gratitude for our commitment to improving the lives of children in the community.
Make A Difference Day is a USA TODAY™ initiative, backed by the Gannett Company and TEGNA Inc. in collaboration with Points of Light and the support of Newman’s Own. Each year, on the third Saturday in October, millions of volunteers across the United States unite with a common mission - to improve the lives of others. In its 24th year, Make A Difference Day is the largest national day of community service, yet it remains a “Local Event With National Impact.”
Over the past four years, Assistance League has proudly participated in Make A Difference Day. This year, our commitment to literacy is evidenced by our chapter-wide Children’s Book Drive. The collaborative effort of over 120 chapters nationwide joins thousands of volunteers together for the purpose of helping neighbors and changing lives.
