Marshall High School's Statesmen Theatre Department will host its spring musical in two upcoming weeks.

FALLS CHURCH, VA — After a successful fall play, the Statesmen Theatre Department at Marshall High School is preparing to perform its spring musical on two upcoming weekends.
The spring musical at Marshall High School will be the Tony Award-nominated "A Year with Frog and Toad." Performances are scheduled for April 28 and 29 and May 6 and 7.
According to a news release, the performance is a "warm and funny musical based on Arnold Lobel’s beloved 'Frog & Toad' children’s books. The musical follows two best friends, the cheerful Frog and fussy Toad, along with other woodland creatures.

"I have always wanted to do a straight-up children’s musical but felt especially determined in the wake of COVID to present a play the entire family can enjoy together," said Marshall Theatre Director Bernie DeLeo in a statement. "The target audience is Kindergarten through 3rd grade, and for many of these kids, this might be the first exposure to live theatre they’ve ever had (thanks to the pandemic taking that away). I read these stories to my own children who are now grown, and it’s been a joy to rediscover these simple yet funny stories and these hilarious characters, this amphibious Abbott & Costello."

Children and adults alike will be entertained by the musical interpretation of Frog & Toad with the addition of song and dance numbers. The performance brings to life adventures from the children's books, from kite flying to scary stories to a runaway sled. Audience members can purchase cookies at intermission after witnessing a humorous end to act one as Frog, Toad and Friends "go kooky eating cookies."
