Meeting To Detail Nutley Street Interchange Redesign
The proposal for the interchange of Nutley Street at Interstate 66 features changes for vehicles, pedestrians and bicyclists.

VIENNA, VA—A proposal for a new design of the Nutley Street interchange at Interstate 66 will be the topic of a community meeting on Wednesday, June 5 from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. The meeting will happen in the Madison High School cafeteria, 2500 James Madison Drive, Vienna, Virginia (entrance door three). The meeting will have an open house format with short presentations at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m.,
The new design applies to the section of Nutley Street where vehicles enter and exit I-66 in both directions. VDOT says the new proposal improves traffic flow on Nutley Street and eliminates the need for a new bridge over I-66.
The redesign also intends to bolster safety for vehicles and pedestrians alike. A new separated, shared-use path will be connected with a path in the Town of Vienna and pedestrian and bicycle improvements at the Vienna Metro.

Construction on the Nutley Street interchange is expected to begin in 2020. Crews have already begun clearing around the interchange and parts of I-66, and traffic shifts on 66 will begin this summer. Once the final design is approved, traffic shifts, ramp closures, and other construction impacts would begin on Nutley Street in 2020.
The Nutley Street interchange redesign is part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway project, which includes adding 22.5 miles of I-66 Express Lanes from the Capital Beltway to University Boulevard in Gainesville.
