VIENNA, VA — After Metro's closure of six Yellow and Blue Line stations for an entire summer for platform rehabilitation, the next projects will take place in 2020. Stations slated for platform work include four Orange Line stations in Northern Virginia and four Green Line stations in Prince George's County in Maryland.

WTOP obtained preliminary contracting documents detailing what Orange Line riders could expect. Metro plans to close the Vienna and Dunn Loring stations, while the West Falls Church Station could operate on a single track. East Falls Church may have one track running, although trains may not stop there to reduce delays from single tracking. Weekend shutdowns can't be ruled out at East Falls Church and West Falls Church.

The project timeline isn't set, but station closures could extend from May 23 on Memorial Day weekend to as long as Aug. 28 before Labor Day weekend. Metro's other possible timeline suggests major work could be completed between May 30 and Aug. 3.

Metro stated on its website that project information would be available this year, but the confirmed schedule may not be ready until January when Metro has chosen a contractor.

According to WTOP, the pedestrian bridge and buses at the Vienna Metro would still be accessible when the station is closed. There have already been impacts in the area as crews construct Interstate 66 Express Lanes outside the Beltway. The Vaden Drive bridge over I-66 closed and will remain closed for reconstruction through summer 2020. After that work is complete, redesign of the Nutley Street interchange will start.
