New Vienna Mayor, Council To Be Sworn In On July 6

The mayor and three new council members will be sworn into office at a public ceremony.

VIENNA, VA — New Vienna Mayor Linda Colbert and the new Town Council will be sworn into office at a public ceremony on July 6. The ceremony will be held outside the Vienna Community Center at 6 p.m.

Colbert will be sworn in as mayor, and Chuck Anderson, Ray Brill, and Ed Somers will be joining Town Council. Their terms began on July 1, 2020 and expire on June 30, 2022. Colbert succeeds former Laurie DiRocco, who served as mayor for six years and a total of 17 years in Vienna public service. Returning council members include Nisha Patel, Steve Potter and Howard Springsteen.

The ceremony is open to the public, but physical distancing measures will be followed. Face coverings are encouraged.

The ceremony will be followed by a Town Council meeting at 8 p.m. at Town Hall. The Town Council meeting will begin at 8 pm at Town Hall. Dr. Gloria Addo-Ayensu, director of the Fairfax County Health Department, will make a presentation to Town Council near the start of the meeting.

A limited number of residents can attend the Town Council meeting in-person, but virtual attendance is encouraged. Residents can sign up for the meeting on Zoom and find information on submitting comments here.
