The Parks and Recreation Department is offering nearly 100 classes, camps, events, and trips for people of all ages – from newborns to mature adults – through the winter quarter.

“What’s really great,” says Parks & Recreation Director Leslie Herman, in a news release from the Town of Vienna, “is that classes not only offer an opportunity to exercise or learn a unique skill, they also allow participants to create a bond with one another and the larger community. Classes provide a great way to meet and make new friends.”

The Town of Vienna is offering an array of adult art and fitness classes, including an expansive pottery program for all skill levels (e.g., beginner/intermediate wheel on January 4), painting and drawing (January 4 and 5), tai chi for beginners (starting January 22), Pilates with props and mats (January 12 and 13), and three variations of yoga (beginning January 9). You also can learn how to play guitar or Irish fiddle or how to trace your family roots (a six-week course starting January 23).

Offerings this winter for mature adults (those 50 and older) include senior fitness (January 5), a six-week memoir writing workshop (beginning January 14), and stress management (March 2).

For children, course offerings include three distinctive “doodlers” arts and craft classes beginning January 12, a clay studio on January 25, and Minecraft animation on January 23.

“While it may be a desire to learn something new, move in new ways, or build upon existing skills that initially bring people to class,” says Vienna Recreation Supervisor Brandy Wyatt, “it’s the relationships they develop that keep people coming back.”
