No Snow Day? FCPS Students Take to Twitter to Blow Off Steam
It all started Monday night, when students began tweeting messages to their cherished school board member Ryan McElveen...

Is it any wonder that Twitter blew up when Fairfax County Public Schools students didn’t get their snow day on Tuesday?
It all began Monday night when students began tweeting their favorite snow day thoughts featuring...who else? Their favorite Fairfax County School Board Member, Ryan McElveen. McElveen has become a star to area students, especially when it comes to calling snow days. McElveen is often the first to tweet the news, so students keep an eye on his Twitter account the night before, when the skies begin to threaten.
McElveen’s face is often featured in a variety of hilarious images on Twitter created by the students. McElveen is a good sport about it; he takes it light and pokes fun at himself, even using his own photo to depict “Elsa” from Disney’s Frozen.

This week, the students’ no-snow day rage was palpable when a snow day didn’t materialize. (Parents were mad too.) McElveen himself took to Twitter to say that FCPS made the wrong decision by not closing or delaying school on Tuesday: “The decision to not #closeFCPS today was terrible. Clearly we screwed up. I am so sorry for all the hardship upon so many.”
School officials issued an apology on Tuesday and announced Tuesday afternoon that there would be a two-hour delay on Wednesday.
