Numerous Vehicle Break-Ins Reported: Vienna Crime Report
A look at recent crime in the Town of Vienna, from the weekly police report.

VIENNA, VA -- The following summary contains various incidents of general interest as well as vehicular crashes handled by the Town of Vienna, Virginia Police Department from March 4, 2016 – March 10, 2016. Readers are reminded that an “arrest” is based upon probable cause and does not always mean that someone was physically taken into custody. Furthermore, it does not mean that an individual is automatically guilty of a crime. Judicial outcomes and post-arrest proceedings can be researched through the appropriate court’s website.

Some reports may be outside the date parameters due to extended investigations or other circumstances. Some cases are not included at all due to ongoing investigations. Fraud 16-001824 200 Block Locust Street, SE Between October 27, 2015 at 12:00 a.m. and November 6, 2015 at 12:00 a.m. A resident reported money being fraudulently taken from her savings account through several ATM transactions. This case is being investigated.
Fraud 16-001719 700 Block Meadow Lane, SW Between March 3 at 12:00 p.m. and March 4 at 9:00 a.m. A resident advised he received a telephone call from a male who he thought was his grandson. The caller stated he had been arrested in the Dominican Republic and needed bond money. The resident was advised to send the money by Western Union, which he did. A short time later a male called identifying himself as a sergeant, advising his grandson now needed additional money for the fine and money for a plane ticket home. After sending additional money the resident feared this may be a scam and reported the incident to our department.

Vehicle Tampering 16-001725 1000 Block Moorefield Creek Road, SW March 4 6:22 p.m. A resident reported a bag containing shoes and a tie he had recently purchased were stolen from his vehicle while it was parked in his driveway. The resident was uncertain if he had left his vehicle unlocked.
Vehicle Tampering 16-001726 1000 Block Moorefield Creek Road, SW March 4 7:15 p.m. A resident report that someone entered his vehicle while it was parked in his driveway and stole his wallet, sunglasses and other items of value. The resident is uncertain if he had left his vehicle unlocked.
Petit Larceny 16-001747 200 Block Cedar Lane, SE March 5 2:07 a.m. A cab driver reported that his male passenger had run off without paying his fare. Officers were able to locate the passenger who apologized to the driver and paid him the amount owed. The cab driver was satisfied with the outcome and did not wish to pursue charges.
Arson 16-001751 Oak Street at Cottage Street, SW March 5 3:16 a.m. Officers responded to assist the fire department with a report of a vehicle fire. Three citizens flagged down officers advising they were just returning to one of the citizen’s homes in the area when they noticed a fire in the bed of a truck parked on the corner. The three individuals worked to extinguish the fire, putting the fire out before officers arrived. This case has been turned over to the Fairfax County Fire Marshall’s Office for further investigation.
Petit Larceny 16-001766 Flagship Carwash 540 Maple Avenue, West March 5 between 1:00 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. A citizen reported his wallet went missing from his vehicle while he was at the carwash.
Suspicious Event 16-001769 400 Block Victoria Court, NW March 5 between 12:00 p.m. and 4:14 p.m. A resident received several packages addressed to him from Ebay containing watches that he did not order. He notified Ebay of the situation and they advised him they were not aware of any problems. The Ebay user who made the purchases was using the resident’s name and address, however the resident has not incurred any loss from the purchases. The resident will continue to follow up with Ebay to resolve the issue.
Arrest - Narcotics Violation 16-001773 100 Block Center Street, North March 5 8:49 p.m. MPO Smith and PFC Tracy responded to a report of a suspicious person. They located the man sitting in his parked vehicle, who appeared to be disoriented when they spoke to him. The officers also observed prescription bottles in the vehicle. MPO Smith arrested the 44 year old man from Marcliff Court in Vienna and charged him with Public Intoxication and two counts of Possession of Narcotics. The man was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. Once at the Detention Center, the man was found to be in possession of additional illegal narcotics. He was then charged with Prisoner in Possession of Narcotics and held on a $3000 bond.
Animal Case – Quarantine 16-001798 600 Block Meadow Lane, SW March 6 5:20 p.m. A resident advised he was walking his poodle on Meadow Lane when a german shepherd and another dog got out of their backyard and attacked his dog. Officers observed a bite mark on the poodle’s back that the resident advised was caused by the german shepherd. PFC Kiley made contact with dogs’ owner and advised them of the quarantine procedure. ACO Barker will follow up with this case.
Arrest – Driving on a Suspended License 16-001804 500 Block Maple Avenue, West March 6 11:27 p.m. MPO Smith observed a vehicle with defective equipment and initiated a traffic stop. After interacting with the driver it was determined that he was operating the vehicle on a suspended license. The 36 year old man from Patrick Street, SE in Vienna was arrested for Driving After Forfeiture of License. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and held on a $1000 secured bond.
Animal Case 16-001810 East Street at Hine Street, SE March 7 6:50 a.m. ACO Barker responded to the report of a sick raccoon. Upon arrival he determined the raccoon could not be saved.
Vehicle Tampering 16-001882 1100 Fairway Drive, NE Between March 8 at 5:00 p.m. and March 9 at 9:00 a.m. A resident reported someone entered his vehicle and its contents had been rifled through. Nothing was missing from the vehicle. He advised he had left his vehicle parked on the street and left unlocked. This case is being investigated.
Vehicle Tampering 16-001879 100 Block Saint Bernard Drive, NE Between March 8 at 7:00 p.m. and March 9 at 9:15 a.m. A resident reported someone entered his locked vehicle, which was parked in the driveway, and took a rain jacket, a key to his home and some change. This case is being investigated.
Vehicle Tampering 16-001887 400 Block Old Courthouse Road, NE Between March 8 at 7:00 p.m. and March 9 at 10:53 a.m. A resident reported someone entered his unlocked vehicle, which was parked in the driveway, and stole an iPod Touch. This case is being investigated.
Grand Larceny 16-001869 300 Block Old Courthouse Road, NE Between March 8 at 8:30 p.m. and March 9 at 7:07 a.m. A resident reported someone entered two of his unlocked vehicles, which were parked in the driveway, and stole sunglasses, an iPhone, currency and a water bottle. This case is being investigated.
Vehicle Tampering 16-001875 1000 Block Westbriar Drive, NE Between March 8 at 9:00 p.m. and March 9 at 7:00 a.m. A resident reported someone entered her unlocked vehicle, which was parked in her driveway. She advised that nothing appears to be missing from the vehicle. This case is being investigated.
Vehicle Tampering 16-001872 400 Block Course Street, NE Between March 8 at 10:00 p.m. and March 9 at 8:00 a.m. resident reported someone entered her unlocked vehicle, which was parked in her driveway, and took three small bags containing make-up, first aid supplies and other miscellaneous items. This case is being investigated.
Vehicle Tampering 16-001885 400 Block Old Courthouse Road, NE March 9 between 12:00 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. A resident reported someone entered his unlocked vehicle, however, nothing was taken. This case is being investigated.
Trespassing 16-001892 900 Block Echols Street, SE March 9 between 11:59 a.m. and 1:59 p.m. A homeowner reported a female was at his home, which is currently under construction. He had previously advised the female she was not allowed on the property, however she had come back. Officer Slebonick and MPO Seitz responded and spoke to a contractor working on the house who advised the female parked her vehicle in the driveway, then she walked away when he asked her why she was there. Officers located the female at her home. Her husband advised she has been suffering some psychiatric problems recently. The homeowner responded to the scene and trespassed the woman, who stated she understood she was not allowed back on the property.
Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated 16-001906 Ayr Hill Avenue and Center Street, NW March 10 1:18 a.m. Ofc. Reedy observed a driver commit a series of traffic violations and initiated a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver he determined the he may have been impaired. After failing a series sobriety tests he arrested the 22 year old man from Glen Meadow Court in Centreville, Virginia for Driving While Intoxicated. He was transported to the Vienna Police station where he was given the opportunity to provide a sample of his breath for analysis. After the analysis he was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated.
Animal Case – Quarantine 16-001916 900 Block Glyndon Street, SE March 10 11:30 a.m. A resident reported his son was bitten on his leg by a neighbor’s dog while retrieving a ball from the neighbor’s yard. It was unclear if the wound was actually caused by one of the neighbor’s two dogs or if it was caused when he jumped the fence running from the dogs. Both dogs are current with their rabies vaccinations. The neighbor has agreed to a 10-day quarantine procedure for the dogs.
Mental Case 16-001917 Cedar Lane Center 101 Cedar Lane, SW March 10 12:19 p.m. Officer Slebonick responded to assist the school staff with a student who made statements that he wanted to harm himself. After the officer spoke with the student and his father it was determined that he was in need of further evaluation. Officer Slebonick transported him to a local health facility for treatment.
Animal Case – Quarantine 16-001923 100 Block Roland Court, SW March 10 2:30 p.m. A resident reported being bitten on the leg by her father’s dog while she was trying to bathe it. The resident was in need of medical treatment but refused rescue and was going to follow up with a local medical facility. The quarantine process was explained to the resident and her father, but they decided they wanted the dog euthanized and tested for rabies. ACO Barker transported the dog to the Fairfax County Animal Shelter and turned custody over to their technicians, where they will euthanize and test the dog.
Trespassing 16-001931 Dairy Queen 304 Maple Avenue, West March 10 8:59 p.m. The owner of the restaurant advised he wanted a former employee trespassed from the property. The man was recently fired from another Dairy Queen location, but has a relative working at this restaurant. Ofc. Reedy and PFC Tracy located the man standing behind the counter acting like he worked at the restaurant. He then advised the officers he does not work there, but wanted to visit his relative. The man was trespassed from the property and advised that he would be arrested if he returned. He then left the area without further incident.
