Oakton HS Wins Best Musical & Actress at Brandon Victor Dixon Awards

Oakton High School's theater program led by Samantha Jalajel has won the Brandon Victor Dixon Awards Best Musical and Best Actress for the second year in a row for their production of Into the Woods by Steven Sondheim. The Brandon Victor Dixon (BVD) Awards celebrates, recognizes and encourages high school musical theatre talents and achievements across the DMV area (Washington, DC; Maryland; and Virginia) that surrounds The National Theatre. This program highlights the importance of arts education in our communities.

Oakton's production was a stand out due to the outstanding cast, set and props.

Best Actress Meera Ayyar will be heading to the National High School Musical Theatre Awards® (NHSMTA®), also known as The Jimmy Awards®, in June where she will compete with 110 nominees from over 50 regional programs culminating in a performance at the Minskoff theater in New York City on June 23rd which will be live streamed via YouTube.
