Parks and Rec Department to Host Groundbreaking for New Community Center

The ceremony will take place on Thursday, Sept. 17, at 4 p.m. The renovation and expansion of the community center should last 18 months.

The town of Vienna has officially closed the doors to its community center as it undergoes a two-phase renovation and expansion expected to last until 2017.

To honor the beginning of a new era for the community center, the town recently announced it will host a groundbreaking ceremony for the renovation and expansion on Thursday, Sept. 17, at 4 p.m.

Those interested in attending the ceremony, to be held at 120 Cherry Street SE, should RSVP by contacting acting Director of Parks and Recreation Amy-Jo Hendrix at ahendrix@viennava.gov.

The Vienna Community Center first opened in 1966, and in addition to being updated through the upcoming renovation will enjoy the addition of a full-size basketball gym when all is said and done. The project is expected to take approximately 18 months.
