Police: Vienna Woman Crashes Into Police Car, Charged with DWI

A look at the most recent crimes in the Town of Vienna, courtesy of the Vienna Police Department.

VIENNA POLICE HIGHLIGHTS April 10, 2015

The following summary contains various incidents of general interest as well as vehicular crashes handled by the Town of Vienna, Virginia Police Department from April 03, 2015 – April 09, 2015. Readers are reminded that an “arrest” is based upon probable cause and does not always mean that someone was physically taken into custody. Furthermore, it does not mean that an individual is automatically guilty of a crime. Judicial outcomes and post-arrest proceedings can be researched through the appropriate court’s website.

Grand Larceny 15-003592 100 Block Hickory Circle, SW Between February 03 at 12:00 a.m. and March 07 at 11:59 p.m. A resident reported that over a period of time several items had gone missing from his mother’s home to include a television and several power tools.

This case is being investigated.

Fraud 15-003588 200 Block Yeonas Drive, SW April 03 5:54 p.m. A resident reported an unknown person had obtained the information from one of his credit card accounts and had successfully made fraudulent charges without his knowledge.

This case is being investigated.

Fraud 15-003507 400 Block Glyndon Street, SE April 03 6:33 p.m. A resident reported that while reviewing his checking account statement he discovered someone had opened a Green Dot Credit Card account without his knowledge.

This case is being investigated.

Domestic Assault 15-003518 200 Block Cedar Lane, SE April 04 8:17 a.m. A resident reported that he and a woman had been involved in a heated argument that escalated when she struck him causing a laceration above his ear. The woman left the residence prior to the arrival of the police.

Officer Kiley responded and spoke with the resident who was not forthcoming in providing the information required, to identify the woman responsible for his injury. The resident was transported to an area hospital for treatment of his injury.

Officer Kiley will continue to investigate this incident to determine the identity of the assailant.

Fraud 15-003583 500 Block Malcolm Road, NW April 04 12:00 p.m. A resident reported she had been alerted by her accountant that someone filed a fraudulent tax return using her identity. The resident contacted the Internal Revenue Service who informed her to file a police report.

This case is being investigated.

Arrest – Drunk in Public 15-003560 400 Block Maple Avenue, East April 04 4:45 p.m. Sgt. Sheeran responded to the area after receiving the report of a drunken individual walking into traffic. Upon arriving he located an individual whose gait was extremely unsteady and appeared intoxicated. After further interaction he determined the 49 year old man from Annandale, Virginia was intoxicated.

The man was arrested and transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Drunk in Public and was to be held until he was sober.

Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated 15-003553 400 Block Maple Avenue, West April 05 1:23 a.m. Sgt. Farhan responded to the area after being informed that an officer’s vehicle had been struck by another vehicle. After arriving at the scene and speaking with the driver of the striking vehicle he determined the driver may have been impaired.

After failing to complete a series of field sobriety tests he arrested the 31 year old woman from Vienna for Driving While Intoxicated. The woman was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where she was given the opportunity to provide a sample of her breath for analysis. After the analysis she was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Driving without a Driver’s License.

She was held on a $2,000.00 bond.

Medical Case 15-003560 Orrin Street, SE April 05 11:19 a.m. A juvenile telephoned the Vienna Police Station and stated he was in need of medical attention.

Officer Reedy responded and after speaking with the juvenile he stated he felt better and no longer needed to be transported. The juvenile stated he was unable to get into his house but would be able to wait until his parents returned home to let him.

Fraud 15-003566 1000 Block Kerge Court, SE April 05 4:54 p.m. A resident reported she had been made aware that someone had used both she and her husband’s identification to file a fraudulent tax return.

Juvenile Case 15-003569 Park Terrace Court, SE April 05 10:33 p.m. A resident reported her daughter had left the house without her permission, by sneaking out her bedroom window. The resident provided the responding officers with possible locations her daughter may have gone. Those locations were checked with negative results.

At approximately 1:30 a.m. on April 06 the resident telephoned Officer Tracy to report that her daughter had returned home. Officer Tracy along with Sgt. Farhan responded to the residence and counseled the girl on the consequences of her actions.

Missing Person – Adult 15-003580 300 Block Old Courthouse Road, NE April 06 8:00 a.m. A resident reported her elderly husband had gone for a walk and had not returned. The resident informed Officer Digan her husband has been known to walk to the shopping center at Gosnell Road and Route 7.

Officer Digan responded to that area and located the husband and provided him with a ride back home. He also provided the wife with information on services to assist in locating her husband should he find himself in the same situation again.

Police Service 15-003581 1200 Block Ware Street, SW April 06 11:41 a.m. A resident responded to the Vienna Police Station to turn in unused/unwanted ammunition for destruction.

Police Service 15-003586 The Vienna Police Station 215 Center Street, South April 06 1:48 p.m.

A citizen responded to the Vienna Police Station to turn in unused/unwanted ammunition for destruction.

Suspicious Person 15-003595 Giant Food Store 359 Maple Avenue, East April 06 5:16 p.m.

Officer Herrera responded to the area after receiving a report of an individual who had been harassing customers. The individual was located in the parking lot of the Branch Road Shopping Center. Upon his interaction the individual made several statements regarding his displeasure with the Federal Government.

The individual returned to his vehicle and left the area.

Assault 15-003507 Vienna Family Medicine 115 Park Street, SE April 06 6:09 p.m. An employee reported a patient had become upset and was refusing to leave the office. An argument ensued which culminated when the patient pushed the employee as she was leaving.

MPO Vazquez responded and informed the employee of the warrant process should she wish to pursue the assault charge. She was also informed of the process to have the patient trespassed from the property.

Open Door 15-003599 Karin’s Florist 527 Maple Avenue, East April 06 7:12 p.m.

An alarm company reported a business alarm had been activated. Officer Slebonick responded and was met by a UPS delivery person who stated the alarm activated when he opened a door to make a delivery.

Officer Slebonick and MPO Nelson checked the inside of the business and found nothing out of place. The door was secured before leaving the scene.

Juvenile Case 15-003607 Cedar Lane School 101 Cedar Lane, SW April 07 8:40 a.m. Officer Tremont received a report that a juvenile who had run away from home, after an argument with her mother, was at the Cedar Lane School. Officer Tremont responded to the school and spoke with the juvenile and her mother who both agreed she should not be returned home at that time.

Officer Tremont transported the girl to another location until things cooled down between her and her mother.

Found Property 15-003622 Magruder’s Shopping Center 180 Maple Avenue, West April 07 12:20 p.m.

A citizen responded to the Vienna Police Station to turn in a cell phone that had been found in the parking lot.

The phone will be held at the police station until the owner can be identified.

Burglary 15-003613 900 Block Echols Street, SE April 07 12:38 p.m. The realtor of a vacant home, due to be razed was alerted by a neighbor of a basement window that appeared to have been left open.

Officer Herrera responded and upon entering the residence he discovered multiple holes in the ceiling and walls that appeared to have been made in order to remove the copper wiring.

This case is being investigated.

Civil Case 15-003612 Flagship Carwash 540 Maple Avenue, West April 07 12:39 p.m.

An ex-employee reported she had not yet received her W-2 from her employer.

She stated she had already contacted her attorney and the IRS.

Open Door 15-003614 200 Block Center Street, North April 07 1:32 p.m. An alarm company reported a residential alarm had been activated. Officer Digan responded and located an open door at the rear of the residence.

The residence was searched and nothing appeared to be out of place. Officer Digan left information informing the homeowner of the incident and secured the door before leaving.

Suspicious Event 15-003620 Taco Bell 362 Maple Avenue, East April 07 4:26 p.m.

A citizen reported that two men and a woman had been trying to take her vehicle that was parked at the Taco Bell. She stated they did not go in her vehicle but informed her they were going to take it. All three left the area prior to the arrival of the police.

The citizen was able to provide the license plate information of the individuals involved. Using that information Officer Herrera contacted the registered owner who stated he had erroneously thought the vehicle was up for repossession. He stated when he confirmed the vehicle’s status he was informed it was not the correct vehicle. He also stated he attempted to explain the situation to the citizen however there was a language barrier.

Officer Herrera contacted the citizen and informed her of the error.

Fraud 15-003628 200 Block Patrick Street, SW April 08 1:43 a.m. A taxi driver reported he had picked up a fare in Arlington, Virginia and drove him to Patrick Street in Vienna. The driver stated the fare gave him a credit card for payment however, the credit card was declined. The fare exited the taxi to go into his house and get cash for the payment. The driver stated the fare went into a nearby backyard and never returned.

MPO Vazquez responded and spoke with the resident of the home where the fare was believed to have gone. The resident stated someone had walked through her backyard and went into the back door of the house next to hers.

MPO Vazquez went to the neighboring residence and located the fare who stated he had gone into his house, fell asleep and forgot to return to pay the taxi driver.

The driver received his payment and declined to pursue any charges.

Fraud 15-003639 400 Block Yeonas Drive, SW April 08 12:20 p.m. A resident reported he had attempted to file his tax return and was informed a return had already been filed in his name.

The resident was informed by the IRS to file a police report.

This case is being investigated.

Destruction of Property 15-003666 Advance Auto 311 Maple Avenue, East April 09 6:30 a.m.

A citizen reported she had been driving through the parking lot when an unknown man stepped in front of her vehicle without warning. The citizen stated she stopped in time without hitting him however, he became very angry and started pounding his fists on the hood of her vehicle causing a small dent.

The man left the area prior to the arrival of the police.

Juvenile Case 15-003678 Cedar Lane School 101 Cedar Lane, SW April 09 1:12 p.m.

An employee reported a student had left the school grounds without permission. PFC Kiley responded and located the student who initially became irate when asked to return to the school.

The student was eventually persuaded to return to the school.

Medical Case 15-003680 500 Block Maple Avenue, East April 09 3:29 p.m. A social worker was meeting with a patient when the patient began to exhibit signs of needing medical attention.

PFC Kiley along with members of the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department responded. The patient agreed to be transported to an area hospital for treatment.
