Read Across America Day - March 2, 2016
Assistance League of Northern Virginia participates in Read Across America Day celebration at local Title 1 school.

OH, THE PLACES YOU'LL GO! Assistance League of Northern Virginia was honored to be invited by Principal Jay Nocco to participate in Lynbrook Elementary School‘s READ ACROSS AMERICA DAY event in which parents, teachers and members of the community take time out of their day to volunteer to read a book to a child.
This morning, four of our members had the pleasure of reading aloud their favorite Dr. Seuss books to kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade students at Lynbrook Elementary, a Title I school in Springfield, VA. Our volunteers were given the opportunity to visit 16 classrooms and were impressed by the students’ well-behaved and attentive manner during the reading sessions. The volunteers who participated in the celebration agreed that it was wonderful to see the excitement and happiness reflected in the children’s faces as they read to and interacted with them. Assistance League would like to thank the teachers and students for welcoming our members with open arms and the school’s librarian, Julie Brannan, for coordinating the schedule and providing age-appropriate books to read.
Read Across America Day activities foster a love of literature. This nation-wide observance coincides with Dr. Seuss’s birthday and brings us all together to READ. #ReadingExpressProgram #CaringAndCommitmentInAction.
