Recycling Truck Catches Fire In Vienna
The truck fire was exacerbated by the heat, but firefighters were able to keep it contained.

VIENNA, VA—The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department had a busy day on Thursday exacerbated by the hot weather. One of the major calls involved a recycling truck catching fire in Vienna.
Around 1:12 p.m., Vienna, Tysons Corner and Dunn Loring firefighters responded to the 800 block of Maple Avenue East for the truck fire. The driver had noticed smoke and fire on the top of the truck and called 911.
The driver and firefighters worked to unload the truck contents to prevent damage to the truck and to extinguish the fire more easily. The fire was quickly contained and extinguished despite scorching temperatures and high humidity. No one was injured.

The same hour, firefighters responded to a two-car accident at northbound Route 29 to northbound Fairfax County Parkway. One car went up in flames, and occupants of both vehicles safely escaped. Then around 5:58 p.m., firefighters responded a trapped driver in an overturned vehicle on Interstate 66 west before Route 28. The driver went to the hospital with minor injuries.
