VIENNA POLICE HIGHLIGHTS November 13, 2015
The following summary contains various incidents of general interest as well as vehicular crashes handled by the Town of Vienna, Virginia Police Department from November 06, 2015 – November 12, 2015. Readers are reminded that an “arrest” is based upon probable cause and does not always mean that someone was physically taken into custody. Furthermore, it does not mean that an individual is automatically guilty of a crime. Judicial outcomes and post-arrest proceedings can be researched through the appropriate court’s website.

Lost Property 15-010886 400 Block Druid Hill Road, NE Between October 09 at 9:00 a.m. and November 09 at 1:46 p.m. A resident reported she lost her Virginia Driver’s License.
Arrest – Drunk in Public/Possession of Marijuana 15-010772 Jammin’ Java 225 Maple Avenue, SE November 06 12:05 a.m.
MPO Nelson responded to the area after receiving the report of a possible domestic dispute in progress. Upon arriving he located a man and woman who stated they were boyfriend and girlfriend. They informed him they had been in a verbal argument only, no physical altercation occurred.
After speaking with the boyfriend, MPO Nelson determined he was intoxicated. The boyfriend was given the opportunity to get a ride from his girlfriend but indicated he would rather go to jail.
MPO Nelson granted his request and arrested the 26 year old man from Oxley Road in Dundalk, Maryland for Drunk in Public. As he was preparing him for his ride he located a measurable amount of marijuana in his possession.
He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Drunk in Public and Possession of Marijuana.
Open Door 15-010775 Michele Rene 165 Maple Avenue, East November 06 1:40 a.m. PFC Kiley was on patrol when he observed an open door leading into the Michele Rene building.
After searching the building and finding nothing appeared suspicious the door was secured.
Petit Larceny 15-010790 900 Block Symphony Circle, SW November 06 between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. A resident reported he removed a tire from his granddaughter’s vehicle, placed it in the front yard and then went to lunch. When he returned from lunch he discovered the tire was gone.
Destruction of Property 15-010794 300 Block Westview Court, NE November 06 2:02 p.m. Officer Slebonick responded to the area after receiving a report of a possible burglary in progress. Upon arrival he spoke with the resident who stated he had been having on-going problems with his daughter-in-law. He stated she arrived at the residence and when he wouldn’t let her in she took an object and began to swing at the door, causing significant damage.
This case is being investigated.
Natural Death 15-010802 100 Block Casmar Street, SE November 06 6:10 p.m. Officer Herrera responded to the area after receiving a report of an elderly female who had passed away. After speaking with the family he determined there were no signs of foul play.
A detective will follow up with this case.
Mental Case 15-010812 Cedar Lane, SE November 07 12:03 a.m. Officer Herrera responded to the area after receiving the report of a security guard needing assistance with a manic and agitated person. Upon arriving he located the mother of the agitated person, she informed him her son suffers from a mental condition and had made statements about hurting himself.
Due to his mental state Officer Herrera transported him to an area hospital for treatment.
Firearms Violation 15-010815 100 Block Casmar Street, SE November 07 12:54 a.m. Officer Hylinski responded to a residence in reference to a natural death (See Case Number 15- 010802 above). While at the residence he spoke with the son of the deceased who informed him he was a convicted felon, making it illegal for him to be in possession of a firearm. He stated there were several guns in the residence that belonged to his parents. He asked Officer Hylinski to take possession of the guns for destruction.
The guns will be held at the Vienna Police Station for destruction.
Police Service 15-010819 700 Block Hunter Court, SW November 07 9:39 a.m. MPO Vazquez responded to a residence after the resident reported an individual had performed work on her property, which she felt was not to her satisfaction. She stated she wanted the workman trespassed from the property.
MPO Vazquez informed the workman to leave the property and not return.
Missing Person 15-010880 100 Block Elm Street, SW Between November 07 at 11:00 a.m. and November 09 at 12:04 p.m. A resident reported her adult son had left home for Virginia Beach. She stated he suffers from a medical condition that sometimes causes him to become confused and forgetful.
After not being able to make contact with her son she contacted the Vienna Police Department to report him missing.
Case Update:
On November 10, 2015 the mother contacted Officer Lyons and informed her that her son had returned home safely.
Mental Case 15-010820 Westview Court, NE November 07 11:10 a.m. Officer Slebonick responded to the area after receiving the report of an individual in need of medical treatment. Upon arrival he met with the individual and her family who determined rescue personnel should be summoned. After being evaluated by Fairfax County Rescue personnel she was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Trespassing 15-010834 1400 Block Desale Street, SW November 07 8:28 p.m. A resident reported a Hispanic male had been seen living in the woods behind his house. Officer Hylinski responded and located the man, who had set up a make shift residence in the wooded area.
The man was informed he was not permitted to sleep in the woods and at the direction of the officer he collected his personal property and left.
Arrest – Drunk in Public 15-010840 Jammin’ Java 225 Maple Avenue, East November 07 11:00 p.m.
An employee reported a customer had jumped up on the stage and attempted to take the microphone from a musician in an attempt to take over the show. When the employee ordered the man off the stage he became combative and aggressive.
Officer Herrera responded and after speaking with him he determined he was intoxicated. He arrested the 23 year old man from Randolph Road in Rockville, Maryland for Drunk in Public.
He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was to be held until he was sober.
Open Door 15-010856 Diplomat Cleaners 318 Maple Avenue, West November 08 3:50 p.m. A customer contacted the Vienna Police Department after arriving at the Diplomat Cleaners and found all the doors to be unlocked but no employees could be found.
The owner of the business was contacted and stated he was out of town and the business was supposed to be closed. He requested MPO Vazquez check the business for any signs of forced entry or anything suspicious. The business was searched and nothing was found to be out of place.
The doors were secured by the responding officer.
Domestic Dispute 15-010862 Ninovan Road, SE November 08 7:31 p.m. A resident stated he and his father were involved in a heated argument that escalated when he began to throw bottles at his father. Officer Herrera responded and spoke with both individuals and determined neither the father nor the son had been injured.
The father was leaving to return to Florida and the mother was informed to contact the police if her son became uncontrollable again.
Juvenile Case 15-010867 Patrick Street, SE November 09 2:01 a.m. Officer Tremont responded to the area after a mother reported her juvenile daughter had run away from home. While in route to the residence Sgt. Sheeran located the daughter at the Cedar Lane Shopping Center.
The daughter was returned home and agreed to listen to her mother.
Arrest – Solicitor 15-010894 Plum Street at Meadow Lane, SW November 09 8:21 p.m. PFC Tracy responded to the area after receiving the report of a solicitor soliciting for exterior residential repairs. PFC Tracy located the individual and informed him he was required to obtain a Town of Vienna Solicitors Permit in order to solicit work. He was released on a verbal warning.
A short time later PFC Tracy returned to find the same solicitor soliciting without the required permit. The 18 year old man from Edmonston Road in Hyattsville, Maryland was issued a summons for Soliciting without a Town of Vienna Permit.
He was released after signing the summons.
Lost Property 15-010938 100 Block Park Street, NE Between November 09 at 11:45 p.m. and November 11 at 11:47 a.m. A citizen reported she accidently left her purse in the parking lot. She stated when she realized her mistake she returned to the parking lot but her purse was gone.
Vehicle Tampering 15-010895 500 Block Nutley Street, SW November 10 4:25 a.m. A resident reported he had gone outside and observed an individual inside his Chevy Silverado Pick-up. He stated he yelled at the man, who fled on foot. The man was described as a black male, 5’6” – 5’8”, skinny build, wearing all black.
He stated nothing appeared to have been taken from his vehicle.
Mental Case 15-010909 Park Street, SE November 10 1:56 p.m. PFC Kiley responded to a doctor’s office after receiving a report of a patient who may have been intending to harm herself. After arriving at the office the patient stated she did not want to harm herself but was in a lot of pain and not having a good day.
PFC Kiley spoke with the doctor who stated she felt the patient should be transported to an area hospital for an evaluation.
PFC Kiley was able to convince the patient to be voluntarily taken to a hospital where she could be evaluated by medical personnel.
Mental Case 15-010910 John Marshall Drive, NE November 10 1:59 p.m. MPO Nelson responded to a residence after receiving a report of a woman on the back porch with a weapon. After his arrival, and securing the weapon, he was able to ascertain the woman did not want to harm herself or anyone else.
MPO Nelson and the resident’s stepson were able to convince her to be taken to an area hospital to seek treatment to help improve her state of mind.
Police Service 15-010911 600 Block Hillcrest Drive, SW November 10 2:53 p.m. A resident contacted MPO Nelson after finding a shotgun in the attic of his residence that is due to be razed.
The shotgun was in poor condition and will be held at the Vienna Police Station until it can be destroyed.
Mental Case 15-010912 Cedar Lane, SE November 10 3:48 p.m. Officer Lyons responded to the Cedar Park Apartments rental office after an employee reported a citizen walked in and was requesting to be transported to an area hospital. The citizen had been unable to find the hospital on his own.
Officer Lyons transported him to an area hospital and left him in the care of the medical staff.
Arrest – Domestic Assault/Drunk in Public 15-010916 Patrick Street, SE November 10 8:17 p.m. PFC Tracy responded to a residence after the resident reported she and her boyfriend had become involved in a heated argument that turned physical. Upon arriving at the residence PFC Tracy located the boyfriend who appeared to be extremely intoxicated.
After speaking with both individuals it was determined that along with being intoxicated, the boyfriend had also assaulted his girlfriend.
PFC Tracy arrested the 29 year old man from Lambskin Lane in Columbia, Maryland and transported him to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Domestic Assault and Drunk in Public.
He was to be held until he was sober.
Mental Case 15-010945 Yeonas Drive, SW November 11 5:28 p.m. Officer Slebonick responded to a residence after receiving a report that a resident was suffering from a self-inflicted injury. After arriving at the residence he determined she was in need of immediate medical attention.
Fairfax County Rescue personnel were summoned and transported her to an area hospital for treatment.
Suspicious Event 15-010966 400 Block Yeonas Drive, SW November 11 between 7:30 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. A resident reported her neighbor had come to her house on several occasions uninvited. She stated he would walk up to the doors or windows and mumble incoherently and then leave.
Officer Post responded and spoke with the neighbor. She informed him he was not to go on the property unless invited or he would be charged with trespassing.
