Road Construction Boss Arrested for Assaulting Worker: Police
Here's a look at some of the incidents reported in the latest crime report from the local police.

VIENNA, VA -- The following summary contains various incidents of general interest handled by the Town of Vienna Police Department from May 6 to May 12, 2016.
Readers are reminded that an “arrest” is based upon probable cause and does not always mean that someone was physically taken into custody. Furthermore, it does not mean that an individual is automatically guilty of a crime. Judicial outcomes and post-arrest proceedings can be researched through the appropriate court’s website.

The Vienna police arrested a foreman on a road construction crew and charged him with assault and battery after a worker on the crew told them the foreman assaulted him, according to the weekly town police report.

The incident occurred at about 1 a.m. May 12 on Maple Avenue at East Street SE, the report said. Ofc. Post escorted the worker to the Fairfax County Magistrate’s Office, where the worker obtained a warrant for his boss charging assault and battery.
Ofc. Post then went back to the construction site, where she served the warrant on the 31-year-old man from Wellington Road in Manassas, the report said. The man was released on his signature.
The following are other incidents reported by police in their weekly report released Friday, May 13:
Burglary 16-003800: 300 Block Sherwood Drive, NE - Between October 1, 2015 at 8 a.m. and May 7, 2016, at 4:20 p.m. A resident reported someone forced entry into his vacant property and stole a bicycle and a heating and cooling unit. This case is under investigation.
Shoplifting 16-003692: CVS. 337 Maple Ave., East - May 4 7:10 p.m. An employee reported three black females entered the store and stole a large quantity of baby formula. This case is being investigated.
Suspicious Event 16-003711: 600 Block Manor Drive, NE - May 5 2:01 p.m. A resident received a suspicious telephone call from a person claiming to be her grandson. The person stated he needed money because he had been injured in an accident and arrested in North Carolina. The resident did not go along with the attempted scam. She did not send any money or suffer any financial loss.
Arrest – Drunk In Public 16-003748: Aldeerah Restaurant, 262 Cedar Lane, SE - May 6 11:36 p.m. Officers responded to the report of several men outside of the restaurant, one of them armed with a knife. An employee of the restaurant advised MPO Lyons that the man was highly intoxicated and was harassing females at the restaurant. He asked the man several times to leave the area. The man walked away, but came back holding a knife.
MPO Lyons located the 38-year-old man, who had no fixed address, and arrested him for being drunk In public. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where he was to be held until he was sober. The employee did not wish to pursue assault charges.
Arrest – Narcotic Violation 16-003770: Old Courthouse Road and Fairway Drive, NE - May 7 12:40 p.m. Sgt. Sheeran observed a traffic violation and initiated a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver, he detected the odor of marijuana. The driver was found to be in possession of a measurable amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The driver, a 22-year-old male from Seneca Ridge Drive in Sterling, was issued a summons for Possession of Marijuana. He was released after signing the summons.
Arrest - Prescription Fraud 16-003781: Vienna Drug Center, 150 Maple Avenue, West - May 7 6:53 p.m. An employee reported a female in the pharmacy attempting to fill a fake prescription. MPO Lyons arrested the 32-year-old woman from Sunset Lane in Prince Frederick, Md., for Prescription Fraud. She was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where she was held on a $1,500 secured bond.
Stolen Vehicle 16-003797: 100 Block Yeonas Drive, SE - Between May 7 at 8 p.m. and May 8 at 6:27 a.m. A resident reported her vehicle was stolen from her carport. This case is under investigation.
Police Service 16-003859: Center Street at Cherry Street, SE - May 10 1:07 a.m. Officer Bulti observed a driver commit a series of traffic offenses and initiated a traffic stop. It was immediately determined that the driver was listed as a missing person from Fairfax County. Personnel from Fairfax County Fire and Rescue responded to assess the driver after he requested medical assistance. Fairfax County Police also responded. Once the driver was medically cleared by rescue personnel, he was released to the care of the Fairfax County Police.
Vehicle Tampering 16-003905: 200 Block Ross Drive, SW - Between May 10 at 2:00 p.m. and May 11 at 5:47 a.m. A resident reported that someone entered two vehicles and rummaged through them. Nothing appeared to have been taken from the vehicles. One of the vehicles was parked on the roadway, the other in the driveway.
Found Property
16-003755: - 100 Block Mendon Lane, SW - May 7, 8:10 a.m. A resident turned in a wallet he found in his yard. The wallet will be held at the Vienna Police Station until the owner can retrieve it.
16-003799: Waters Field, 130 Cherry St., SE - May 8, 8:20 a.m. A citizen found a cell phone and bicycle helmet at the field. The property will be held at the Vienna Police Station to see if an owner can be identified.
16-003827: - 100 Block Ross Drive, SW - May 8, 7 p.m. A resident found a purse in her trashcan. The purse is being held at the Vienna Police Station to see if an owner can be identified.
Crash - Maple Avenue near Follin Lane, SE - 16-003778: At 4:54 p.m. on May 7, a driver was eastbound on Maple Avenue approximately 500 feet beyond the intersection of Follin Lane. The driver swerved to right to avoid striking a small animal, went off the roadway and struck a utility pole. The driver was evaluated by rescue personnel but refused transport.
