Rob Jones to Kick Off Vienna Turkey Trot Sunday November 19

Storied athlete and Marine Corps veteran to appear at 15th annual race to support James Madison Band Boosters, Vienna Volunteer Fire Dept.

Just off his 31-Marathons-in-31-Days challenge, Marine Corps Veteran and Vienna resident Rob Jones will join the James Madison High School Band boosters at the start of the 15th annual Turkey Trot race event on Sunday, November 19. Races include:

8:00 a.m. Kids Fun Run

8:30 a.m. 5K and 10K

About Rob Jones

Jones, a Marine Corps veteran who lost both legs in Afghanistan, is a storied athlete who raises awareness and funds for wounded veterans organizations. Soon after his rehabilitation he began training for the 2012 Paralympics, winning a Bronze medal in rowing, followed by a 4th place in the 2013 World Rowing Championships. In October 2013 he began a solo supported bike ride across America, which he completed in April 2014. On Saturday, he completed a month-long, back-to-back marathon challenge in which he ran 31 marathons in 31 days in 31 different major cities. More about Rob Jones at http://www.robjonesjourney.com/.

About the Vienna Turkey Trot

The USATF-certified 5K/10K course starts at 400 Center St by the Volunteer Fire Department. Parents do not need to register to run with their children in the Fun Run. Strollers are permitted but four-legged friends are asked to cheer from the sidelines.

Trophies and organic, free-range turkeys from Whole Foods will be awarded to the overall male/female winners and overall Masters (over 40) male/female winners. Awards three deep for male/female winners in the following age groups: 0-14; 15-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; 70-79; 80+.

Event proceeds support the award-winning “Pride of Vienna” James Madison HS Marching Band and the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department. The Band Boosters extend special thanks to the event sponsors:
