A look at the most recent crime incidents in the Town of Vienna, courtesy of the Town of Vienna Police weekly crime report.

The following summary contains various incidents of general interest as well as vehicular crashes handled by the Town of Vienna, Virginia Police Department from March 11, 2016 – March 17, 2016. Readers are reminded that an “arrest” is based upon probable cause and does not always mean that someone was physically taken into custody.
Furthermore, it does not mean that an individual is automatically guilty of a crime. Judicial outcomes and post-arrest proceedings can be researched through the appropriate court’s website.
(VIENNA POLICE HIGHLIGHTS is not meant to be a listing of every incident or call handled by the Vienna Police, but merely a more substantive summary of several incidents, which may be of interest to the community. Some reports may be outside the date parameters due to extended investigations or other circumstances. Some cases are not included at all due to ongoing investigations. Vehicle Tampering 16-001945: 100 Block Saint Andrews Drive, NE Between March 6 at 8:00 a.m. and March 11 at 6:45 a.m. A resident reported someone entered his unlocked vehicle, which was parked on the street, and took loose coins.
Grand Larceny 16-002060: 100 Block Melody Lane, SE Between March 7 at 12:00 p.m. and March 14 at 12:00 p.m. A resident reported several items were stolen from his home.
Suspicious Event 16-2097: 800 Block Follin Lane, SE March 8 between 9:30 a.m. and 3:35 p.m. Security Officers reported two suspicious men in the area taking photographs of a building. The report was made several days after the incident.
Arrest – Hit and Run 16-001857: Church Street at Mill Street, NE March 8 4:19 p.m. The driver of the first vehicle reported he was northbound on Mill Street stopped at the stop sign for Church Street. As he proceeded into the intersection he was struck by another vehicle that was traveling westbound on Church Street and failed to obey the stop sign. The striking vehicle immediately left the area without checking on the other driver or providing his information. The driver of the first vehicle and witnesses to the accident provided officers with a description of the striking vehicle, a tag number and a description of the driver in the suspect vehicle. After further investigation, MPO Vazquez arrested a 22 year old man from Woodbine Lane in Annandale, Virginia for Felony Hit and Run and Driving on a Suspended License. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was held on a $1500 bond.
Suspicious Event 16-001949: 100 Block Melody Lane, SW Between March 10 at 8:00 p.m. and March 11 at 10:00 a.m. A resident advised that on the previous night she observed an unknown person inside her neighbor’s vacant house. Officer Hylinski and MPO Nelson checked the property, finding some vandalism. However, they were unable to determine if the damage was recently made.
Domestic Dispute 16-001961: 1000 Block Hillcrest Drive, SW March 11 7:14 p.m. A resident had an argument with his adult son. After officers spoke to both parties the son agreed to leave the house for the night to allow time for him and his dad to calm down.
Open Door 16-001988: 600 Block Valley Drive, SE March 12 12:29 p.m. A resident reported an open garage door at her neighbor’s house. It appeared that the neighbor may have forgotten to close the door when they left the home that morning. MPO Vazquez checked the residence and found all other doors to be secure and nothing appeared to be disturbed. MPO Vazquez was able to secure the garage door.
Weapons Violation 16-001996: 300 Block Center Street, North March 12 4:04 p.m. Officer Hylinski responded to the report of a man shooting squirrels with a BB gun in his backyard. The officer located the man who admitted to shooting at the squirrels because they were causing damage to his house. Officer Hylinski explained the Town Code which prohibits discharging a BB gun in the Town. The man was unaware that he was breaking any law and agreed to comply with the Town ordinance.
Lost Property 16-002062: Tuesday Morning 136 Maple Avenue, West March 12 7:00 p.m. A resident noticed her cell phone was missing when she returned home from shopping. She believes she may have lost it in the area of Tuesday Morning.
Arrest – Narcotic Violation 16-002005: 100 Block Beulah Road, NE March 12 10:05 p.m. MPO Shaw observed a vehicle traveling above the speed limit on Beulah Road and initiated a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver he detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. After further interaction he located a measurable amount of marijuana and paraphernalia. The driver, an 18 year old woman from Red Rock Court in Vienna, was issued a summons for Speeding and for Possession of Marijuana. She was released after signing the summonses.
Found Property 16-002011: CVS 337 Maple Avenue, East March 13 3:35 a.m. An employee reported finding US Currency that was left in the store. It is believed the money belongs to a citizen who had previously filed a lost property report with the store. The currency is being held at the Vienna Police Station to be released to the owner.
Animal Case – Quarantine 16-002018: 800 Block Ninovan Road, SE March 12 4:00 p.m. Fairfax County Animal Control advised they had taken a report from an area hospital regarding a juvenile who had been bitten by her neighbor’s cat. The child was being treated at the hospital for the injury that had occurred the previous day while the child was petting the cat. MPO Vazquez responded to the area, but was told by a neighbor that the cat’s owner is currently out of town. ACO Barker will follow up on this case to locate the animal and quarantine him.
Fraud 16-002031: 200 Glyndon Street, NE March 13 8:00 p.m. A resident reported working on her computer when a pop-up add came on the screen advising her of a virus on the computer and instructing her to call a telephone number. The resident called the number provided and allowed the person remote access to her computer. The resident is concerned that this may have been a fraud and that her personal information may have been compromised.
Fraud 16-002124: 200 Block Commons Drive, NW Between March 14 at 8:00 a.m. and March 17 at 4:00 p.m. A resident reported being the victim of fraud when she was notified by mail that she had won in Publisher’s Clearing House. The letter provided her with a telephone number to contact to collect her winnings. After calling the number she was instructed to send a large sum of money for insurance on her winnings. This case is being investigated.
Found Property 16-002039: Vienna Police Station, 215 Center Street, South March 14 2:55 p.m. A citizen brought a found wallet into the Vienna Police Station. The wallet will be held at the station until the owner can retrieve it.
Suspicious Event 16-02096: 300 Block Tapawingo Road, SE March 14 3:00 p.m. A resident reported a continuous dispute with a female neighbor. He advised that when visitors come to his home they legally park their vehicles on Tapawingo Road. The neighbor has become upset with the visitors, yelling at them, taking photographs of their vehicles and banging on the resident’s door until the vehicles are moved. Officers have previously explained to the neighbor that the visitors have a right to legally park on the public roadway, however the incidents have continued.
Found Property 16-002066: 900 Block Meadow Lane, SW March 15 2:00 p.m. A citizen turned in a wallet that had been found by workmen at a home that is under construction. The owner was notified, and the wallet will be held at the Vienna Police Station until the owner can retrieve it.
Vandalism 16-002101: 200 Block Church Street, NW March 16 between 7:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. A citizen left her vehicle legally parked in a parking lot. When she returned to the vehicle she found someone had vandalized it.
Grand Larceny 16-002099: Westwood Country Club 800 Maple Avenue, East March 16 between 12:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. A citizen reported his watch and wallet were stolen from his vehicle while it was parked in the parking lot. The citizen believes he dropped his key fob in the parking lot, possibly allowing the unknown person access to his vehicle. His key fob is also missing.
Found Property 16-002098: 100 Block Branch Road, SE March 16 4:05 p.m. A resident reported a found bicycle that had been left at the park on Branch Road. The bicycle is being held at the Vienna Police Station.
Assault 16-002126: Cedar Lane School 101 Cedar Lane, SW March 17 10:04 a.m. A student reported being assaulted by another student. Petitions for assault are pending in this case.
Animal Case 16-002132: 1000 Block Country Club Drive, NE March 17 10:38 p.m. A resident located an injured dog in her yard. Ofc. Tremont transported the dog, a brown lab with no identification, to a local animal hospital for medical treatment. He then transported the dog to the Fairfax County Animal Shelter. ACO Barker will follow up on this case.
