A Short History of Evolution

Speakers Roger Hillson and Randy Adams will lead a spirited discussion on evoluntion motivated by the book, A Short History of Evolution – Theme and Variations, by Carl Coon.

This presentation will take place at Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Fairfax, 2709 Hunter Mill Rd. in Oakton, VA on Sunday, October 18 at 12:30pm. The event, part of the Sunday Science, Reason & Religion Forum Series, will be held in the Sanctuary Building (top of the hill, at right).

Roger Hillson - B.S. E.E. from Swarthmore College; Ph.D Physiological and Experimental Psychology from Duke University. He recently retired from a full-time position at the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL), where his research focused on mathematical modeling, experimental psychology, behavioral analysis, and parallel distributed simulation. Dr. Hillson is a member of the Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society. While at NRL, he received the annual Berman publication award for the best journal article published by a member of the Information Technology Division. He currently works part-time as a consultant, while pursuing hobbies that include sport rocketry and amateur radio.

Randy Adams is currently semi-retired from his most recent position as head of the the evaluation unit for training at the Peace Corps. His current side gigs include: Adjunct Faculty/International Development – VIU, Expert Consultant/Evaluation – USAID/Africa Bureau, Board Vice Chair, International Association for Community Development (IACD), Board member of the National Peace Corps Association.

At the Peace Corps, he was responsible for field staff in 70+ countries with responsibility for monitoring and evaluation of staff working on a variety of development projects.
