Social4Good Awards Grants in Honor of Give to Women and Girls Day

Social4Good awards “Give to Women and Girls Day” grants to She Believes In Me and Space of Her Own in recognition of their efforts to provide resources, life lessons, and mentorship to young girls in Northern Virginia.

Give to Women and Girls Day is a national campaign to increase charitable giving to women’s and girls’ organizations. Social4Good (S4G) is supporting the October 11th campaign alongside other women’s organizations, in recognition of research by the Women’s Philanthropy Institute (WPI) at the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy which has consistently shown that women’s and girls’ organizations receive less than 2% of total philanthropic dollars.

Give to Women and Girls Day aims to amplify philanthropic support for organizations that work tirelessly to uplift and empower women and girls in our community, across the nation, and around the world. Our local women's and girls' organizations play a pivotal role in shaping a brighter future for all.

Each month, S4G educates, engages and empowers women to make a difference in Northern Virginia. "Give to Women and Girls Day is an opportunity for Social4Good to invest in the potential of women and girls in our community," says Faith Boettger, Founder & Chair, Social4Good. "By raising visibility for local organizations providing opportunities, mentorship and resources, we can help create a community where every woman and girl can thrive."

She Believes In Me and Space of Her Own were selected in recognition of the impact these small women-founded organizations are having on the lives of young girls.

• She Believes In Me was founded in 2018 by Renee Gorman and a group of teachers and social workers in Herndon, Virginia. These professionals recognized an urgent and growing need to provide support to young girls in the community, many of whom were suffering as a result of poverty and trauma. Their mission is to encourage, empower and inspire while meeting the physical and emotional needs of Northern Virginia’s most vulnerable children and families.
• Space of Her Own was founded by Linda Odell, City of Alexandria, and Alice Merrill, then employed at The Art League, to build a program that would inspire and engage youth in visual arts and essential life skills lessons. Since then, Space of Her Own has transformed into an award-winning mentoring program that empowers remarkable girls from underserved communities through one-to-one mentoring, art, STEM, and life skills development.
