Madison High School students are invited to help paint a new mural at the Vienna Shopping Center this summer.

The Town of Vienna's Public Art Commission selected Seattle artists Eleanor Doughty and Emily Herr's concept to paint the mural. Work on the mural begins next week. Students can volunteer for shifts from 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m. and 4 p.m.-7:30 p.m. or an hour or two on Wednesday-Friday of next week. Students of all skill levels are welcome. Interested students should email availability to info@edoughty.com.

The mural, titled "Vienna's W&OD Trail: Highway of Community," depicts landmarks along the trail throughout Town as well as in greater Northern Virginia and Washington, DC.

"The general theme is to illustrate joyful, casual recreation of individuals in downtown Vienna (small town) against the greater surroundings of Northern Virginia and Washington, DC (big community)," said Doughty, a Vienna native, in their mural proposal.
