Tehran-born Vienna artist Mahnaz Weldy in NYC Art Show!
NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea's Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Tehran-born Vienna artist Mahnaz Weldy in Unbound Perspectives.
Mahnaz Weldy: Turning Color and Movement into a Spiritual Journey
“I did not find painting,” Mahnaz Weldy says, “painting found me.” In Weldy’s vividly colored acrylic on canvas works, emotions are the foundation of each image, while her sharp eye for line, color and composition gives those feelings a compelling form. Moving between purely abstract works and those in which human figures and cultural symbols emerge from bold strokes of color, Weldy has a strong sense of how color can add depth and movement to a painting. When that is combined with her skill at rendering a variety of textures—from energetic, swirling brushstrokes to soft, subtly modulated fields of color—the result is a body of work that takes the viewer on what the artist calls “a spiritual journey.”
Born in Iran, Weldy left the country following the Islamic Revolution to come to America, and that path can be seen in her images. Present in her work are both the hallmarks of Persian art, such as the use of rich colors and a disciplined formal sense, and the freedom and spontaneity of modern art. In bringing those worlds together, Weldy creates a distinctive world of her own.

About the Exhibition
Unbound Perspectives - Exploring Mediums and the World at Agora Gallery
Agora Gallery presents Unbound Perspectives, a group exhibition highlighting work that presents reality with heightened aesthetic possibilities. Bringing together no fewer than eighteen artists, the exhibition is an eclectic mixture of photography, painting, and sculpture. Some pieces present subtler, updated forms of surrealism: familiar objects and figures taken out of context and placed into new environments, or classic art historical tableaux with present-day icons swapped in. Other pieces are rooted in abstraction and approach the familiar from the opposite end of the spectrum. There are investigations into color, line, and texture, all as they relate to depicting things from the real world – and especially, imagining them differently. Every work in Unbound Perspectives shares the tension of seeing foreign elements integrated with everyday things. The exhibition celebrates the new and the unexpected, with eyes forward but always carrying knowledge of the past.
