Things Vienna Is Missing, According To Readers

Readers overwhelmingly voiced support for Trader Joe's and other businesses, along with some curious community improvements.

VIENNA, VA—We asked what was one thing Vienna was missing, and you answered. In fact, the responses were overwhelming when we posed the question on Facebook.

We got more than 90 comments, not including replies, and went through each response to understand what residents want in their future here in Vienna. We tallied the top responses by counting likes and multiple comments expressing the same concerns.

There's one thing for certain: Vienna has a high demand for Trader Joe's. A number of respondents favored Wawa and Roy Rogers and other specific businesses, but even more simply want any kind of sports bars, an Irish pub and hardware store. (And we suspect comments like more mattress stores and speed traps weren't meant to be serious, but they certainly evoked responses.)

We expected responses like mitigating traffic and making housing more affordable, but readers made some other interesting suggestions for community improvements. A proposal for a pedestrian-only shopping and dining area near the Caboose received 25 votes, while 22 supported safer driving on the Park Street traffic circle. Patch plans to follow up with the Town of Vienna to explore this feedback.
