Thoreau Middle School 'Pink Out Day' Set for Thursday in Vienna
Students and faculty encouraged to wear pink to promote breast cancer awareness and support.

Don’t forget to wear pink on Thursday! Students and faculty at Vienna’s Thoreau Middle School are gearing up to hold “Pink Out Day” Thursday, Oct. 30. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month.
The Student Council Association at the school sponsors its annual “Pink Out Day” to promote breast cancer awareness and support.
Last year, students and faculty turned out in pink clothing, pink socks, pink ties and even pink face paint.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women, except for skin cancers. About 1 in 8 (12 percent) women in the United States will develop invasive breast cancer during their lifetime, according to the American Cancer Society.

- About 232,670 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women.
