Townhouse Fire Displaces 2, Causes No Injuries In Vienna
The fire started within a wall between a bedroom closet and second floor bathroom, according to investigators.
VIENNA, VA — Two people were displaced after a townhouse fire in Vienna Wednesday, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.
The fire happened around 12:12 p.m. in the 400 block of Council Drive NE. Crews found smoke coming from the roof and located a fire in a second floor bedroom. The fire was quickly extinguished, and there were no injuries reported.
Two people had been home at the time. A plumber was sweating a pipe in a second floor bathroom left the home and returned to find the smoke alarm sounding. He discovered smoke in the area where he had been working. The worker and a resident called 911 and evacuated.

Investigators determined the fire's cause was an open flame device, a torch, that ignited nearby combustibles within the wall between the bedroom closet and second floor bathroom. Damages were estimated by the fire department to be $148,750.
Red Cross assistance was declined.

A portion of Church Street was temporarily closed for the response but has reopened.
