VIENNA, VA -- The following summary contains various incidents of general interest as well as vehicular crashes handled by the Town of Vienna, Virginia Police Department from January 01, 2016 – January 07, 2016. Readers are reminded that an “arrest” is based upon probable cause and does not always mean that someone was physically taken into custody. Furthermore, it does not mean that an individual is automatically guilty of a crime. Judicial outcomes and post-arrest proceedings can be researched through the appropriate court’s website.

Fraud 16-000148 100 Block Patrick Street, SE December 15, 2015 12:00 p.m. A resident reported his credit card had been taken and used without his knowledge at a Giant Food Store.
This case is being investigated.
Suspicious Event 16-000055 Sport Clips 134 Maple Avenue, East Between December 20, 2015 at 8:00 a.m. and January 02, 2016 at 4:01 p.m. An employee reported she discovered text messages sent between two ex-employees which concerned her. She stated the messages expressed the ex-employees desire to make her business fail.
She did not wish to pursue charges in the case.
Police Service 16-000133 Navy Federal Credit Union 820 Follin Lane, SE December 24, 2015 8:00 a.m. An employee reported he had been walking into the building from the parking lot when a vehicle, traveling in the wrong direction and too fast, nearly struck him. The driver of the vehicle stopped to make sure he was alright but no information was exchanged.
Petit Larceny 16-000222 1000 Block Park Street, SE Between December 28, 2015 at 6:56 p.m. and January 07, 2016 at 9:35 p.m. The owner of a residence reported someone had taken the “For Rent” sign he placed in the yard.
Telephone Case 16-000121 200 Block Yeonas Drive, SW Between December 31, 2015 at 7:00 a.m. and January 04 at 6:12 p.m. A resident reported she had been receiving inappropriate text messages from a co-worker.
This case is being investigated.
Domestic Assault 15-012731 Holmes Drive, NW December 31, 2015 1:30 p.m. A resident reported her son and his girlfriend had been involved in a heated argument that escalated when he struck her. MPO Lyons responded to the residence and spoke with all the individuals involved. The boyfriend had left prior to the arrival of the police.
The girlfriend informed MPO Lyons she was not injured and there were no visible injuries. She was informed of the warrant process should she decide to pursue the case.
Vandalism 16-000019 400 Block Blair Road, NW Between December 31, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. and January 01, 2016 at 10:43 a.m. The owner of legally parked vehicle reported the driver’s side mirror on his vehicle had been smashed.
Natural Death 15-012738 700 Block Meadow Lane, SW December 31, 2015 6:08 p.m. A resident reported his elderly wife had passed away after an extended illness. There were no signs of foul play.
A detective will follow up with the case.
Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated/Refusal 16-000001 100 Block Maple Avenue, West January 01 12:01 a.m. Sgt. Sylmar was on patrol when he observed the driver of a vehicle commit several traffic violations. As a result of those violations he conducted a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver he detected the signs of possible impairment. After failing to complete a series of field sobriety tests he arrested the 46 year old man from Devereaux Manor Lane in Fairfax Station, Virginia for Driving While Intoxicated.
The driver was transported to the Vienna Police Station where he was giving the opportunity to provide a sample of his breath for analysis, which he refused.
He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Refusal to Submit to a Breath Test.
Vandalism 16-000015 400 Block Blair Road, NW January 01 between 1:30 a.m. and 10:43 a.m. The owner of a legally parked vehicle reported the driver’s side mirror on his vehicle had been smashed.
Arrest – Narcotics Violation 16-000004 400 Block Maple Avenue, West January 01 2:24 a.m. Officer Reedy was on patrol when he observed a vehicle with an equipment defect. As a result of that defect he conducted a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver he detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. After further interaction with the driver he located a measurable amount of marijuana.
The driver, a 22 year old woman from Montclair Court in Vienna, was issued a summons for Possession of Marijuana and released.
Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated/Refusal 16-000007 Center Street at Ayr Hill Avenue, NE January 01 5:29 a.m. Officer Lyons responded to the area after receiving a report of a vehicle that had been stopped at the Stop Sign for approximately 30 minutes. Upon arriving she found the driver to be asleep at the wheel of his vehicle with the engine running. After several unsuccessful attempts to awaken the driver Officer Lyons summoned Fairfax County Rescue personnel to evaluate the condition of the driver.
After being awakened by the rescue personnel the driver became irate and combative. Officer Lyons determined the driver may have been impaired and made attempts to encourage him to perform field sobriety tests, which he refused.
The driver, a 24 year old man from Joel Drive in Annandale, Virginia, was transported to the Vienna Police Station where he was given the opportunity to provide a sample of his breath for analysis, which he again refused.
The driver was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Refusal to Submit to a Breath Test. He was held on a $5,000.00 bond.
Telephone Case 16-000021 500 Block Stephen Circle, SW January 01 1:22 p.m. A resident reported she had been receiving unwanted text messages from an unknown number.
MPO Vazquez instructed her to block the number or contact her cellphone provider.
Assist Fire/EMS 16-000045 Wooden Bakery 303 Mill Street, NE January 02 7:03 a.m.
MPO Vazquez responded to the Wooden Bakery to assist with an employee who had been injured by a piece of machinery. The employee was transported to an area hospital with what were deemed non-life threatening injuries.
Petit Larceny 16-000111 300 Block Windover Avenue, NW Between January 02 at 9:00 a.m. and January 04 at 9:47 a.m. A resident reported a headlight reflector had been taken from the front edge of his driveway.
Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated 16-000071 Beulah Road at Cynthia Lane, NE January 02 11:42 p.m. Officer Herrera was on patrol when he observed the driver of a vehicle commit several traffic violations. As a result of those violations he conducted a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver he detected the signs of possible impairment. After failing to complete a series of field sobriety tests he arrested the 24 year old man from Abbey Oak Drive in Vienna for Driving While Intoxicated.
The driver was transported to the Vienna Police Station where he was given the opportunity to provide a sample of his breath for analysis. After the analysis he was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated.
He was to be released when he was sober.
Petit Larceny 16-000081 7-11 427 Maple Avenue, East January 03 2:30 a.m. Sgt. Sheeran was on patrol when he observed a vehicle pull into the parking lot at the 7-11. As he was observing the vehicle a juvenile exited the vehicle and then returned after absconding with a case of Deer Park water. The vehicle then exited the parking lot.
Sgt. Sheeran conducted a traffic stop and after speaking with the juvenile the water was returned to the 7-11. The juvenile’s mother was contacted and responded to the scene to take her son home.
An employee of the 7-11 declined to pursue charges for the theft.
Alcohol Violation 16-000080 Maple Avenue at Center Street, NW January 03 2:36 a.m. Sgt. Sheeran conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle after observing a passenger in the vehicle abscond with a case of Deer Park Water from the 7-11, See Incident Number 16-000081 above. While speaking with the driver and passengers, all juveniles, he determined three of the juveniles had consumed alcohol at some time during the evening.
The parents of the juveniles were contacted and responded to take their children home. This case is being investigated.
Arrest – Narcotics Violation 16-000106 300 Block Berry Street, SE January 04 12:38 a.m. Officer Hylinski was on patrol when he observed the driver of a vehicle commit a traffic offense. As a result of that offense he conducted a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver he located a measurable amount of marijuana and a pill bottle containing a Schedule IV Controlled Substance, which had not been prescribed to him.
The driver, a 22 year old man from Berry Street, SE in Vienna, was issued summonses for Possession of Marijuana and Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Substance.
The driver was released after signing the summonses.
Assist Fire/EMS 16-000107 7-11 537 Maple Avenue, West January 04 1:59 a.m. Officer Herrera responded to the area after an employee reported a female had run into the store and requested the employee call 911. Upon arriving he located the female who was unable to provide any personal information or how she arrived at the 7-11.
After complaining of chest pain, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue personnel were summoned and transported the woman to an area hospital for treatment. While en route to the hospital the woman was able to remember her name and address.
Officer Herrera responded to the woman’s residence and informed her family of her whereabouts and condition.
Arrest – Trespassing/Drunk in Public 16-000122 McDonald’s 544 Maple Avenue, West January 04 6:17 p.m.
PFC Tracy responded to the McDonald’s for the report of a suspicious person standing at the front counter. After speaking with an employee he was informed the individual, who was intoxicated, had been banned from the restaurant on a previous occasion.
PFC Tracy arrested the 39 year old man from Layton Hall Drive in Fairfax, Virginia and transported him to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Drunk in Public and Trespassing.
He was to be held until he was sober.
Domestic Assault 16-000124 Hillcrest Drive, SW January 04 6:30 p.m. A citizen reported he had been to his ex-wife’s home, to drop off some of his children’s belongings, when and argument ensued and she struck him.
MPO Shaver spoke with the ex-wife who denied striking her ex-husband. The ex-husband was informed of the warrant process should he wish to pursue charges.
Natural Death 16-000128 400 Block West Street, NW January 05 5:30 a.m. A resident found her elderly father deceased in his bedroom.
A detective will follow up with this case.
Arrest – Drunk in Public 16-000151 7-11 537 Maple Avenue, West January 05 8:53 p.m.
MPO Shaver responded to the area, along with members of the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, for the report of a woman who had fallen and hit her face on the ground. The woman refused to be treated by the medics and was determined to be intoxicated.
MPO Shaver arrested the 20 year old woman, with no fixed address, for Drunk in Public. She was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where she was to be held until she was sober.
Suspicious Event 16-000186 Cedar Lane School 101 Cedar Lane, SW January 06 2:55 p.m.
Two employees reported that as they were walking to their vehicles a black pickup truck entered the parking lot, parked at the end of the lot and began taking pictures of parked vehicles.
The employees re-entered the school to notify the principal, however, the truck had left the scene before he was able to get to the parking lot.
Arrest – Drunk in Public 16-000188 400 Block Maple Avenue, West January 06 5:11 p.m. Officer Slebonick responded to the area after receiving the report of a suspicious person who appeared to be intoxicated. Upon arriving he observed the individual having difficulty maintaining his balance. After speaking with the man he determined he was intoxicated.
Officer Slebonick arrested the 60 year old man from Key Boulevard in Arlington, Virginia for Drunk in Public. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was to be held until he was sober.
Vandalism 16-000214 Church of the Holy Comforter 543 Beulah Road, NE Between January 06 at 7:00 p.m. and January 07 at 11:16 a.m. An employee reported someone had damaged the chain link fence that surrounds the playground.
Suspicious Person 16-000221 Zoes Kitchen 418 Maple Avenue, East January 07 2:00 p.m.
An employee reported a black male had entered the restaurant on several occasions and attempted to get refunds for meals he had not purchased. She stated he also asked employees questions concerning their personal lives, which made them uneasy.
Officer Hylinski informed the employee of the trespass process should the individual return.
Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated/Refusal 16-000219 400 Block West Street, NW January 07 6:16 p.m. Officer Tremont responded to the area for the report of an accident. Upon arriving he determined the driver of a vehicle was traveling westbound on West Street, NW and struck a legally parked vehicle. While speaking with the driver he detected signs of possible impairment. After failing to complete several field sobriety tests he arrested the 29 year old man from Lock Raven Road in Temple Hills, Maryland for Driving While Intoxicated.
The driver was transported to the Vienna Police Station where he was given the opportunity to provide a sample of his breath for analysis, which he refused. He was then transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Refusal to Submit to a Breath Test.
He was held on a $3,000.00 bond.
