Veterans Day Marked With Ceremony, Luncheon In Vienna
Veterans can join a luncheon and join Vienna's Veterans Day ceremony during the upcoming holiday.

VIENNA, VA — Veterans Day is coming up, providing a time to honor those who have served in the U.S. armed forces.
The Town of Vienna will observe the holiday on Friday, Nov. 10. Town offices will be closed, and regular waste collection will take place, except bulk, brush or yard waste collection.
Vienna has several events through the Veterans Day weekend. American Legion Post 180 will first host a placement of flags at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9 at Flint Hill Cemetery (2845 Chain Bridge Rd., Vienna, VA). In the case of inclement weather, it will be rescheduled to Friday, Nov. 10. On Saturday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m., a Veterans Day Ceremony will be held at the American Legion Post 180's Patriot Hall (330 Center St. N, Vienna, VA).

Vienna Presbyterian Church will have another event to celebrate veterans. Veterans and active duty military are invited to a luncheon celebration at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 12 at Vienna Presbyterian Church (124 Park St. NE, Vienna, VA). Attendees will be treated to Mission BBQ lunch and hear music by the Cathedral Brass. The keynote speaker will be Steven Schwab, executive director of the Elizabeth Dole Foundation, which supports military caregivers.

In light of the event, the church is remembering Tom Portman, an Air Force veteran who died in September. Tom and his wife, Robin Portman, have organized veteran events as leaders of the church's Veteran Friendly Ministry.

Active duty military and veterans are asked to RSVP for the event to Susan.kenney@viennapres.org or 703-938-9050 #123. With the RSVP, veterans are asked to submit a picture (preferably in uniform) for a slide show that will be shown at the event. Registration has been extended through Thursday, Nov. 9.
