VIENNA, VA—July 4th is quickly approaching, which means it's time to fire up that barbecue and find out what Fourth of July fireworks and festivities are going on near you this Independence Day. We gathered up all the fireworks shows, parades and festivals happening in and around Vienna so you can start planning now.

If you're heading to events in Vienna, unpleasant weather is possible. According to the National Weather Service, showers and thunderstorms are likely, especially after 2 p.m. and before 11 p.m. Expect a 60 percent chance of precipitation with high temperatures near 91.

What: Vienna Fireworks Show

Where: Yeonas Park, 1319 Ross Dr SW, Vienna, VA

When: July 4, festivities at 7:15 p.m., fireworks show at 9:30 p.m.

The Town of Vienna's annual fireworks show includes music by the Josh Christina Band, food and non-alcoholic drinks from the Vienna Little League concession stand and food trucks, and the main event sponsored by Navy Federal Credit Union.

What: Sprinklers & Sparklers

Where: Vienna Community Center, 120 Cherry St SE, Vienna, VA

When: July 4, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

This daytime prelude to the fireworks show features three water slides and other water activities as well as five food trucks and snow cones. Kids (and adults who join in) should expect to get really wet.

Washington, D.C., Concert And Fireworks

WHAT: Washington, D.C. Fourth of July Celebration
WHERE: The National Mall
WHEN: 11:45 a.m. - 2 p.m. (Via the National Park Service's website)
National Independence Day Parade, Constitution Ave. NW from 7th Street to 17th Street NW: "Marching bands, fife and drum corps, floats, military units, giant balloons, equestrian, drill teams and more celebrate Independence Day in this patriotic, flag-waving, red, white and blue celebration of America's birthday!"

8:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.

A Capitol Fourth Concert, West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol: "Co-sponsored by the National Park Service and the National Symphony Orchestra, A Capital Fourth honors our nation's 243rd birthday with an all-star salute of the best in American entertainment. Gates open at 3 p.m." Performers this year include John Stamos, Vanessa Williams, Carole King, Sesame Street, the National Symphony Orchestra, and many more.

9:07 p.m. - 9:27 p.m.
Fireworks Display: "Independence Day culminates with a spectacular fireworks display over the National Mall. The fireworks will be launched from West Potomac Park and will be visible from many locations throughout D.C. and Northern Virginia. The fireworks will be cancelled in case of heavy rain, thunderstorms or high winds."

TRANSPORTATION: Avoid driving, as there will be no place to park and many roads will be closed off. Ridesharing is also likely to be difficult. Your best bet is to take the Metro to stations near the National Mall, such as the Smithsonian.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • Plan to arrive early
  • Protect yourself from heat-related illness
  • Bring ear protection
  • Consider eye protection just in case of falling debris
  • Leave your pets at home
  • Be aware of closures: "Viewing areas on the National Mall near the Washington Monument and Reflecting Pool will be accessible only through secure access points. ... Immediately following the fireworks, areas along Independence Avenue between the Lincoln Memorial and World War II Memorial will be closed for safety checks related to the fireworks launch site. The road and sidewalks will re-open after cleanup crews have completed their inspection and removed any hazardous materials."
